I saw Smilla recently, and what can I say? The critics may
have thought it was mediocre, but I actually enjoyed it.
With the exception of Redgrave's performance, which was a
bore, I somehow found the rest of the performances
interesting, even Ormand's. I admit that Ormand may not be
the best choice for playing a lady with an Inuit
background, but I was nevertheless able to take interest in
her character, and hey, I can understand why she was so
determined to get to the bottom of the mystery.

I though Ormand played her role exceptionally well. As a
troubled person who tries to keep her face empty of
expression Smilla reveals her feelings through her eyes,
and Ormand, with the help of the camera, does so very
effectively. Good support and wonderful use of background.
