Saving Private Ryan

Miller's silly speech to Ryan on the bridge and you have
the most honest, accurate and powerful depiction of the
brutality, stupidity and futility of war ever put on the
big screen! The audience deserves veteran's benefits!
Magnificent.
Speilburg, chooses to use that talent to make a difference.
The difference that this film made in my life, and that it
will hopefully make in the lives of others in my
generation, is that it not only reminded me of the
brutality and horror of war, it showed me that there were
real men who chose to jump into that horror so that I could
sit here at my computer and tell the world how this movie
has affected me. These men went through this awfull
experience because they wanted to do their part in
preserving the freedoms that they enjoyed then and that we
do now. See the movie, and when your children are old
enough, see the movie with them.
won't seem so bad.
Tom Hanks gives as great a performance in this as he did in
PHILADELPIA where he received an Oscar award. I am a
military veteran and I attended the movie with another military veteran and his 25 yearold son. We all very much
enjoyed the time spent watching Saving of Private Ryan.
actually gorier than the real war itself, but that it
presented a pretty similar likeness to what happened.
been so realistic and moving. I saw it opening day and
have seen it two more times since. People shouldn't be
REQUIRED to see it . . . but if you're up for it,
definately see it. Kudos to Spielburg, Hanks, and John
Williams, and pretty much everyone else involved in the
movie.
saving private ryan kicked ass.
thankyou,chris riddle
"Saving Private Ryan". As a young vibrant 18 yr old, i
never sat down and appreciated what these men had to go
through, and never realised the horrible brutal and horrific
scenes these men had to encounter. Saving Private Ryan has
changed all that, now i look up to those war veterans, and
think of what they did, so that we,todays generations,
young and old, can live in peace. A top performance, and
the most moving heartbreaking movie I have ever
seen.Prepare to be depressed after watching this one, but
its a MUST
Avery entertaing and unpredictable film that is intense and sad but can be disturbing. I loved it.
shaking afterward, and it took me a while to recover. This
is one of the most powerful, real, emotionally wrenching
films I have ever seen, with a subtle but haunting score by
John Williams and an understated, though heartbreakingly
human performance by Tom Hanks. This movie is an amazing
feat of cinema, but it transcended even that, and had a
substantial impact on me.
this movie is any indication then it really will be a great
movie. Speildberg's and Hank's for that matter very best
work. About as flawless as movies these days get
picture, I saw it back in July and it moved me so much it
changed the way I think, and it also changed my life. It is
a very violent film make no mastake, but it is no teen punk
trash movie, it is realistic. It is hard to think real men,
went through this because they believed in their country,
they left their beloved families and homes to face the
tragedy of war. This movie diserves 5 stars diserves best
picture and changed my life.
*I'll will buy this when it comes on to video for sure, and
enjoy it there, and someday I willshow this masterpiese of
film to my children. Thankyou.
but much of the battle was from the perspective of the
soldiers and I found myself feeling frightened and dazed. I
left the movie asking myself if my life would have been
worth saving at such a price, or if I would have been a hero
, a coward or just dead. Sobering, disturbing, inspiring,
terrifying, awesome movie. (Subtitles would have been nice.)
and probably will be the best that will ever be made. I
went to see it a few weeks after it opened and there were
war veterans in there too. Many you could hear throwing up.
Others went to sit outside shaking uncontrollably. I have
asked veternas who saw it that were there what they
thought, and they say it is as close as you will ever see
war without getting your head blown off. I was in tears
alot duuring this movie and I can tell you a movie has
never really changed my life except for SPR. This has
inspired me to appreciate what our guys had to go through.
This is a movie that everyone should see due to its very
high meaning. It was hard watching it , but I felt so great
that actual guys had to go through it becaus ethey wanted a
better worl for their families. See it, and it will change
your life. After I saw it I had cold chills up and downmnm
my body. An excellent performance all around!!
When I went to see Starship Troopers I was very disturbed with the violent content and the PG 13 rating the movie theater gave it. Every time a guy got ripped in half or a "Bug" got it's ass nuked I heard a few people say sick coments like "COOOL!" and "NUKE 'EM", that made me sick! But then when I saw the reality of war is SPR, your heard know one in the theader laugth, and the part with the "Sticky Bomb" scared the S**T out of every one, and no one had the nerve to say "COOOL", because they were traumatised like the many solders in war were. Speilburg it the best director I've ever seen, Tom Hank should of gotten an Oskar, and in my opinion Saving Private Ryan should of gotten Best Movie in a Life Time! Because of many people being disturbed in this film is why people should have to see it in school when being taught WWII. If you have never see this movie, this is a MUST! There will never be a masterpiece like this! Speilburg, Hanks, and Williams best work ever!
anything novel or original that we haven't seen before in
countless other war films. The opening battle sequence is
average, nothing more; the characters are stereotypes; the
dialogue is wooden; and there's absolutely no immediacy to
the storyline. (I mean, did anyone really care if the
beloved Ryan got rescued? Yeah, that's what I thought.)
then. The first half-hour is just war on battefield - i like
it. Very realistic movie. Special Effects were outstanding.
A little long though. #1 for me this month
face it,
the "movie," itself, was treacly and overdone. As to the
plot and the characters (with the notable exception of
Barry
Pepper's sniper--a great character), it's 100% hollywood.
That being said, the opening battle sequence is the
single best piece of filmaking I've ever seen. It was
absolutely devestating. I've never seen anything so
intense,
so frightening, so riveting in a movie (or any other piece
of
art for that matter). I couldn't turn away from the
screen,
thought, at times, I desperately wanted to. I wanted the
scene to end, yet wanted it to keep going forever. That
battle scene is truly a work of art. Any illusions I ever
had of thinking, "yeah, I'd survive in a war," were gone
the
minute the scene ended. The randomness of life or death in
war is permanantly etched in my mind.
honest the movie was terrible people are not stupied. they
know that a war is a terrible thing we dont need to be fed
with a spoon all the time. there were so many other better
war films then this one. movies like platton, born on the 4
of july, full metal jacket. they were all much better
becasue they had a good story line which ryan did not. and
i
heard people say they really showed us what war is all
about. i mean its redicules. how stupied can a person be if
he thinks war is a good thing. i mean for me its enough too
see one guy get shot, to realize what a war is all about.
the movie is really so pathic that americans who go to the
movie become patriotic and thats so sad.......
cheers .
Speilburgs undeniable talent. It was well composed, and
very relistic. The casting was great. Speilburg is the
best director and this was a perfect example of his work.
Much improvment from Escape to Nowhere, but hey he was only
a kid when he made that flick. Even though it is rated R I
sill saw it even though I'm just thirteen. The camera crew
was the best.
young folk how traumatic war was/is for these brave men &
women. It is not good to glorify war, but seeing the level
of courage & self sacrifice of these soldier's moves you
close to tears at times. I have 4 brothers, all in there
late teen's/ early 20's & i could'nt fathom how painful it
would be to lose them all in quick succession in the same
way private Ryan lost his. Tom Hank's again is tremendous,
a great great performance. I was so angry when he did'nt
pick up the oscar for his role, he really deserved it.
Although i admire the American effort in WW2, don't lose
sight of the fact that their allies helped win the war too.
that all can take heart from. Honor, duty and above all
courage when faced with uncertain circumstances. While
this
movie is very disturbingly graphic, and is R-rated as per
such it is much closer to the PG-13 side of this rating
than
the NC-17 side that a few pott smoking politically correct
hippie-morons have suggested. Seeing Matt Damon fade back
to the elderly gentleman in the cemetary with his family in
the background told the bottom line of what this show was
all about. It provides a profound anti-war message, while
at the same time paying tribute to those who fell in our
last truly epical bloody conflicts (not the small thing
Vietnam was).
to be thankfull that those young men went out there to stop
someone like hitler. He mercilessly killed 6 million jews
and planed to take the world, we need to know how it was
fought so we know that those brave people gave their lives
that we might live today!
story though the movie is also very realistic.
