Obviously, looking at your last of responses this film has
either been seen by few or hasn't had the desired effect
that Peter Medak would have wanted when he made this
production. However I feel I have a duty to give my view
of 'Romeo is Bleeding' which in my opinion is a highly
watchable, dark thriller that portrays the sleazier side of
the police force in a somewhat surreal light. The first
time I saw this film was approxiametely 4 years ago on T.V,
and due to missing small parts of it I couldn't quite
understand it: "I mean a women with a bionic arm?". But
when the film was finished I was intrigued and had to watch
it right the way through. So, unable to purchase the video
from any video retailer I gave up, until iI saw it second
hand.Anyway back to the review:
Romeo is Bleeding is a quality film from start to finish,
but had it not been for the two stars-Gary Oldman and Lena
Olin I'm afraid it would have fallen on it's face!
Gary Oldman gives an oscar performance as Jack Grimaldi
and shows form that has eluded him for most of his later
films.I particularly liked the courthouse scene which oozed
so much emotion from Oldman. What he was thinking of at the
time-I have no idea!
The only performance I was disappointed with was that of
mob boss Roy'Jaws'Scheider who came across as a weak old
man rather than a brutal gangster who orders executions and
acts of torture.
Apart from that, if you like your thrillers sexy, cool and
downright sleazy!-Romeo is bleeding is for you!
