First, the good news: The sequence in which "animated
paint" starts gushing like a flood out of all those books
in the library and pouring all over Macaulay(hence his
exclamation "Gosh, I'm a cartoon!") is a most brilliantly
filmed (and animated) sequence, and it's one of the
cleverest moments in the film, earning it *1/2 stars. Now
the bad news: With the exception of that sequence, there is
very little else to recommend here. Despite the splendid
animation, the story is very lethargic, and the attempts at
humor are appallingly weak. What a pity, since the voice
cast was well picked. Well, back to the drawing board.
I liked this movie. I saw it at my friends house, and
absolutly loved it. I liked how they tied in all different
kinds of books. I thought that it was really cute.
Now I know that Macaulay Culkin reminds me of that little mouse named Fievel from An American Tail.
The Pagemaster came out in 1994 after 1993's We're Back A Dinosaur's Story and 1992's Rock-A-Doodle.
The Pagemaster is my favorite movie with The Pebble And The Penguin and Anastasia.
The Pagemaster is my favorite movie with Cats Don't Dance and Quest For Camelot.
