Mission: Impossible

I find rather ludicrous and insulting. To write such a
character as James Phelps as turning out to be a villian at
the end!(oops! I hope I didn't spoil it for anyone.) As you
can see, this movie adaptation, like so many other movies
of it's sort, isn't faithful to it's source material, if at
all. What makes the classic 1966-1973 TV show work so well
is that the characters are intentionally secondary to the
action in general-it is the gadgetry, among other such
things, that are the main focus. And since the gadgets in
such a show can be used in almost any day and age, that's
why Mission: Impossible remains one the tube's most durable
concepts. Here however, we have the problem of that
characters are the main focus, and sadly, not in a very
well written way. For one thing, the whole crew, save a
few, are killed off around the beginning of the film, and
likewise, any true resemblance to the show on which it's
based. From there on, the script cheats terribly, and any
possible chemistry between Cruise and Beart is not offered
either. Amazingly, the person to blame for that may have
been Cruise's wife, Nicole Kidman. Some newspapers revealed
that there actually had been some love scenes between
Cruise and Beart, but that Kidman had disapproved of them,
and had persuaded the studio to excise them. Is that so?
I'm surprised. Did she think that her hubby was really
cheating on her? Come on. Then again, knowing that Cruise
had been worshiping such a distastefully Orwellian religion
as Scientology(the film was banned in Germany because of
that), maybe he was asking for it. As mentioned before, the
movie is not faithful to the show on which it's based,
which is why it would be better to remain loyal the old
show instead. I'm also not looking forward to seeing the
planned sequel that's coming soon.

Tom Cruise show's again why he is the leading A list actor.
This movie is very entertaining, the espionage bit's are
brilliant & creative. Well done Tom, i'm also pleased that
Mission Imp 2 is being filmed in Sydney, the
new 'Hollywood' centre.

Don't mean to sound like a bimbo here but I found this film
a tad confusing (to say the least). Even though Tom Cruise
looked gorgeous even HE wasn't enough to keep my attention.
A simpler storyline would have been much better-there's no
need to make it so complicated that you spend more time
thinking than you do enjoying the movie, it's simply not
neccesary.

What's confusing about it? I was able to follow it in one
sitting? If anyone is interested, I can explain the twists
and turns in this film's plot. It's not really that
incomprehensible; it's just filled with double whammies.
Everything about it ties together in a logical/orderly way.

People say it's confusing, but if they watch it again,
they'll catch what they missed. I think the script is well
written and intriguing. Also, if you don't think it is
enough like the series which inspired it, ask yourself, how
many movies are exactly the same as what they are based
on. Not very many. I loved the details and twists of
plot. I found it exciting and facinating. Not to mention,
Tom Cruise was incredible.(Cute too!) Think what you may,
but I loved it.

it's late 2003, and i'm new to the internet(at home, anyway)
but i'd still like to post an opinion of this much-maligned
flick. One thing i'd like to mention is the fact that most
movie critics at the time of release ragged on this update
because they were a tad cranky at the notion of a remake of
one of their childhood t.v.shows. they were steadfastly
opposed to anyone daring to re-imagine, and in the process,
make them question their appreciation for something they
had never lent an unbiased look at, an icon that they like
to fancy as ALL THEIR OWN. Something that the younger
generation dare not try and identify with, because of
the 'Hey, that's MINE!'mantality..'Remake something that
YOU know!'Nevermind the fact that it was made by people
well into their age group.'They also made FLOPS'is what
they say. Oh well. For me and just about everyone I know,
this movie was a blast-a well written, well directed, well
acted blast-and if the stalwarts hated it....then, well,
they can hate the new Jim Phelps and favor the Peter Graves
Phelps all they want. Their still just nitpicking and
criticizing in a fearful attempt to cling to their baby-
boomer childhood('cause 'the Wonder Years' has gone off the
air and Kool Oldies are fading fast), and hissing like a
dying cat at the generation who've been sent to replace
them.
