Actually,Lensman is a pretty good film.I have seen both
Japanese and US versions of the film,so they are kinda
altered diffrently.
Favorite scenes:The disco riot Bill starts,Worsel's
appearances(he's my fav),where Lord Helmith blows up his
wishy-washy henchmen,Kim asorbing the Lens and the ending.
Scenes I've could have done without:In the Japanese
version,Kim and Clarisse kiss.Ummmmmm,get this,Kim is 18
and Chris is ummmmm,twenty-something.I just don't sense
anything right there.
Anyways,if you like your anime campy or if you are sick of
Sailor Moon and it's rip-offs,sit down and watch this!
Lensman is a great film for any fan of 1980's Japanese
animation. Sure, the animation is somewhat dated and the
computer effects are not nearly as revolutionary as the
creaters would have you believe, but all in all Lensman is
a highly enjoyable space adventure that has a variety of
interesting and unusual characters and some classic action
sequences.
Actually, George Lucas was influenced by the writings of E.E. Doc. Smith. If anything, Star Wars is a rip off of the Lensman series. I am not saying that it is, but I do know it's where some of Goerge Lucas's inspiration came from. They were published before Star Wars and have influenced many modern space operas. The japanese version, however, was not Edward E. Smiths writing. There is talk of new Lensman movies to be created by Imagine Entertainment and Universal Studios with Ron Howard directing and screen play to be written by the writter of Babylon 5. Real science fiction fans will be as excited for these movies as the first star wars(if they are ever made).
