character is a strong, conscious, intelligent, feminist
woman who doesn't let anyone beat her down. Reviewers may
scoff at the attempt of a feminist approach and wonder why
it is necessary to have Moore sexually harassed. This is
reality. This movie deals with the reality of what many
women who are challenging gender roles have to face. Of
course she is sexually harassed, of course she is almost
raped. But the point is that she doesn't falter in the
shower scene and instead relishes in the fact that he
admires her body and she doesn't give a shit. The point is
that he doesn't rape her as in so many other movies and
instead kicks him in the ..... And of course she is accused
of being a lesbian. This is reality. And Bancroft turning
against her.... more reality in the way that women are
institutionalized to compete with and turn on each other.
And despite all of these things, the woman still triumphs, a
rarity in almost any film about women.
