Well, I don't know about Chris Hicks, but I found this film
to be rather ludicrous. It may not be as wretched as Woo's
first Hollywood movie, the execrable Hard Target, but it's
still very lurid, and there's a lot of blatant violence in
it to boot. These shocking scenes include:

-the airplane chase scene where Troy murders a lady cop on
board his getaway plane and throws her off the wing(ugh!
That makes me shudder).

-the scene where, when Archer has captured Troy and is
holding a gun to his head, Troy taunts him in a whiny
voice, even using the f-word.

-the prison scene where, when Troy arrives wearing Archer's
face and tells the latter, who's currently wearing the
former's face, as to how he managed to recover and get
Archer's face sewn on, Archer grabs him by the throat and
says like this: "dieeeeeee!" in a rolling(?) tone of voice.
The way he shouted it sounded ridiculous, and didn't sound
raging at all.

-the scene at the end where Troy, still wearing Archer's
face, takes a diver's knife, and -oh,gawd!- slashes it in a
circle before Archer manages to do him in with a speargun.
This is one of the most lurid things I have ever seen so
far in a 90's action film(luckily for Archer, the medical
staff that performed the operation in the first place is
able to put his face back on, and without it's looking
damaged either).

-and another thing I really found ludicrous here was the
use of the song "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" during the
shootout at Troy's hideout, where Archer was currently
hiding whil wearing Troy's face. This I found to be most
shocking, since the filmmakers must be trying to say that
films like these are what come as music to the male
audiences ears(I'm still not even sure if I've come up the
correct way to explain that theory), as well as theirs.

I have to say this though: It's pretty obvious as to why
Travolta and Cage would be chosen for a film like this:
Both of them what what are otherwise very sleazy
personalities(no wonder there were people back in my native
Philadelphia who sometimes called Travolta "John
Revolting"!). Given the premise, it's too clever to be
easily dismissed, but, give that Woo has chosen to include
a lot of blatent violence, it's too lurid to be easily
enjoyed either. So if you decide to see the film, be
warned: you could be as offended as you could be impressed.

Face/Off is an extraordinarily well made film, with scenes
ranging from those taught in emotion to those will with
kick-ass action! If you are in the mood for a non-stop

I thought the movie was grate. Cage gave a excelent
preformace like always. Travolta played the villan perfact.
I realy liked cages guns at first the Gold w/ black hand
grip. It had alot of action which is excpected with John
Woo. The rest of the cast was good, but I think Johns
preformance was excelent.

Best action movie to hit the screens! Briliant acting
delving deeply into emotional and practical aspects. It
captures the feelings of its characters brilliantly and
allows the viwer to empathize with the situations. Totally
nail-biting and gripping piece of cinema construction!!
AWESOME!!

Men, I mean boys, with a fragile masculine ego and a need
to compensate will love this movie. This movie will appeal
to the same groups of people who love professional
wrestling and monster trucks. What a joke!

To Paul, I just want to say that this is one my favorite
movies, and I hate wrestling and monster trucks, nor do I
have a "fragile masculine ego". Who the hell talks like
that anyway? You're a joke. If you don't find this movie
even remotely entertaining, then I'm sorry to say, you have
no taste. I take that back, I'm not sorry to say that. You
probally think "Gigli" is a masterpiece.
