Gimme a break. Dosen't anyone want to admit that this movie
is clumsy and vapid? And besides, Warren Beatty, phony that
he is, is no Bogart or Gable. One of the most unnessacary
things about the film was setting it in the thirties, which
additionally torpedoes any chances for a really challenging
plot. And furthermore, I really just don't like Madonna,
having seen her a decade ago in the utterly stupid "Who's
that Girl?" I guess this is all why I enjoyed the MAD
satire much more. And in that MAD satire, when Shtick
Tracy, as they renamed him there(laughter), came to Big Boy
Caprice's nightclub to ask Madonna questions, she asked
him, "Are you from the MPAA ratings board?", to which he
answered, seeing her wearing a skimpy nightie, "If I were,
this film would never have been rated PG!" Ha, ha. Now
that's funny. And it also tells the something important
about the film: it shouldn't have been rated just PG. This
is an early example of a film that got too small an MPAA
rating, and it's therefore food for thought.
