This is one of my all-time favorite films. The reason
Cinema Paradiso has such a profound effect upon me is that
the story is something that I can relate to, and the
characters are charming and memorable. Scenes like
Alfredo, the projectionist, using a bit of technical know-
how to magically give the citizens outside the theater a
free movie, and a moment for the true romantic, Elena and
Salvatore kissing in the rain. Also, who can forget that
heartwarming and sentimental finale in which Salvatore, the
grown-up movie director, sits in his private screening room
watching an assemblage of screen movie kisses that were
edited out of the movies he saw as a boy, and to see his
reaction as he thinks about this wonderful gift given to
him by the only father he ever knew, Alfredo, the
projectionist. . .if this scene doesn't argue the
importance of keeping a finished film intact, I don't want
does. On a whole, this film is a special gift to anyone
who loves the movies.

Great example when the foreign Oscar winning movie was MUCH better than the actual Best Picture (Driving Miss Daisy). Fantastic movie!
