Granted it is not a classic, but neither does it pretend to
be. For its genre--a character driven thriller--it
succeeds very nicely. Characters are well developed, the
audience is not too insulted, the tension builds, the
acting is good to great (and for once Costner's limited
range is exactly what the part calls for), and who would
have guessed Houston had it in her? She's great and sexy
in the role. The only misstep is the attempt to obviously
manipulate the audience with the "fake" killer--the little
nebbish handyman. But otherwise this film pays the
dividends you expect for this type of film.
