When it comes to making a movie about the subject of sex,
only European countries like France, Italy and Spain truly
know how to tell it right, and with otherwise good taste.
This is one of the best films of it's sort, and Deneuve,
one of the many undisputed goddesses of Eurocinema from the
1960's, gives a radiant performance as the seemingly
happily married Severine, who takes a shot at being a
prostitute as a form of escapism. I must say, Bunuel
certainly knew what he and his gorgeous star were doing
when they made this classic. It's very absorbing indeed.
