The only thing good about Batman Returns, is the fact that
Michelle Pfeiffer is in it. The storyline stunk, no real
evil intentions from the Penguin.

As disappointing as the first film, this movie was very
needlessly nasty, and it was very depressing to watch. It
was also very dreary. What really disappointed me here was
that the Penguin in this movie was modeled on anti-semitic
caricatures, as reported by the New York Times back in
1992. According to some staff writers there, the Penguin
and even Max Shreck were also were also modeled on
anti-semitic caricatures of Moses and even Aaron. Boy, that
was pretty appalling to discover. The Penguin of the comics
wasn't so hideous and neither was his background. Tim
Burton, how could you? The only bright spot here was
Michelle Pfeiffer's performance as the Catwoman, although
it should be noted that she was miscast: as many comic book
purists know, the Catwoman/Selena Kyle of the comic books
is a brunette, not a blonde. As for the rest of this movie,
skip it and just read the comic books.

The TV series was made before I was born, but the first
time I saw it I was hooked.
When I saw Batman Returns I thought it upheld the spirit of
the original series. Brilliant acting & an excellent
soundtrack!
WELL WORTH 4 STARS!

I might be little late here but anyway, I just watched
Batman -Returns again and it is still great movie. I don't
care if it doesn't resemble comics or that tv program. Tim
Burton's Batman doesn't need those, it is strong enough
itself. It is a great fantasy movie, it is dark but there
is a lot of humor too. All the effects and scenery are
awesome like in Burtons other movies too. Michael Keaton is
the right Batman, he doesn't need to be egomaniac who is
star all the time. He maintains the credibility as a dark
twisted character who has to wear that suit. Batman -
Returns is a great movie, it is funny in it's own way and
it doesn't take idea of Batman too seriously. So all
together brilliant movie. This is the real Batman movie.

2.5 stars, actually. A slight step down from the
first "Batman" film, it still has good performances by all
the cast members. Michael Keaton is again superb as Bruce
Wayne/Batman and Danny DeVito is excellent as Oswald
Cobblepot/The Penguin. Once again Michael Gough steals
the show as the understated, quintesential butler Alfred;
however, he is almost upstaged by Michelle Pfieffer as
Selina Kyle/Catwoman. Unfortunately, Max Schreck (played
admirably by Christopher Walken) seems only to be in the
film to create Catwoman and there are also some problems
with the story: for instance, a power plant that actually
sucks up power rather than provides it is mentioned than
quickly discarded. Still, a fairly good film in-and-of-
itself.

Tim Burton's follow up to the 1989 blockbuster hit Batman
is an even better film than its predecessor. This time
around Burton's direction seems more confident, he knows
how he wants to present this material and his dark approach
is just perfect. Michael Keaton returns as the caped
crusader and like Burton his performance is far more
confident and even given more texture than before. He is
perfectly complimented by a superb supporting cast. Danny
DeVito and Michelle Pfeiffer bring the characters Catwoman
and The Penguin to life and Christopher Walken is also
great as Max Shreck. A worthy follow up to Batman in
nearly every possible way.
