A beautifully filmed piece which speaks of the alienation of
women during medieval times. Each frame of the film looks
like a graphite drawing, powerful and compelling -- like the
notebook of DaVinci. I found this piece inspiring and
profound. It helped that I have no conflict between the
divinity of Mary and naturalism, the reflection of God.
Maybe this film is too deep for some, but I encourage anyone
to take the time and keep an open mind.

A little hard to understand at times. The black and white
roughness was visually difficult in some spots. I didn't
know what I was looking at! But it made the story seem all
the more stark and understandable. Overall, a very
compelling film. I enjoyed it!

It's a long time since we saw this film but it has
certainly stuck with us. The photography was really
impressive. However, our over-exposure to Monty Python
ensured that we were the only people in the cinema who
laughed at anything - we thought it was quite a humorous
film, what with peasants rolling about in filth and all,
but we did appreciate its seriousness too. We are amazed to
find there is a web site for this rather obscure little
gem. Does anyone know how we can obtain a video copy
(suitable for UK video equipment)?
