Kudos to Murray for honoring this incredibly talented, wonderful young man! David has comported himself in an extremely admirable manner during his time on American Idol. He's maintained his standards and won the affection of everyone around him. David is a credit to his family, the Church, and the state of Utah. He'll win Idol if there is any justice in this wicked world.

I'm driving up from Washington state for his homecoming because David's music and his persona have really touched my heart--unlike anything I've ever experienced. He's a phenomenon to me, a legend in the making. I think there is no limit to where he'll go with his huge, beautiful voice and that sweet soul of his.

I'm a goner, a lifer. I will love this kid til I'm six feet under, maybe longer. It's baffling in many ways, hard to understand. There's something very unique about David and how his music moves people. He deserves all the success and happiness that will surely come his way.

The ESA will be a sold out crowd on Friday night when the Jazz play the LA Lakers on their home court, GO JAZZ and GO DAVID, You can pull this one off @ the Jazz game singing the National Anthem.
Petey | 7:20 a.m. May 8, 2008
Wow, can you say overkill. Let's feed the hungry, cloth the naked, and visit the sick and afflicted. Not go goo-goo over this phony reality show.
Roger | 7:29 a.m. May 8, 2008
You are the new hope for the future of young performing artists. Finally, we have someone who is truly genuine and gracious. This is a far cry from the beligerent lyrics and attitudes of so many young "artists". I sincerely hope my students will pay close attention to you and your approach to life. You have proven over and over again that hard work, a kind heart and lofty ideals are far more important to the making of a true "idol" than
trendy second rate fluff. Thank you so very much.
We'll wait for your cd's to hit the shelves.

I am praying that David Archuleta will be the next American Idol...Hope he can visit the Philippines too! I am one of his million fan outside US...Goodluck! and God Bless.
report the facts dnews | 7:36 a.m. May 8, 2008
One thing the trib is reporting that the desnews is not is that the anthem will not be on kjazz nor espn. Why did you leave this important tidbit out dnews? Don't you think the fans who cannot afford nor could buy the soldout playoff tickets would like to know this? For all you going to the game enjoy.
Hi Petey, | 7:54 a.m. May 8, 2008
I don't see any reason why we can't feed the hungry, cloth the naked, visit the sick and afflicted AND enjoy a fun, goofy reality show. Multi-tasking...ya know?

P.S. Congratulations, David A.

Way To Go DAVID!!!!!!
K | 8:27 a.m. May 8, 2008
It's funny. I've never watched even a single episode of American Idol, but whenever anything comes on about it, I listen to hear if our local boy is still in the competiion.

The Deseret News is my first stop on the web every day to keep tabs on it. I guess I can see how people get addicted to this show.

I'd really like to see him win. Hope it's not true that nice guys finish last.

Go David!

Petey - With all the negative things going on around us ( war, gas prices, foreclosures, failing economy etc . . . ) what's wrong with a little escape. David's not going to solve the worlds problems, but for a moment it might make the world a little nicer place - for some of us. Just enjoy it and try not to over analyze it.

I am from just north of the border, Canada, and I'd say, David A. is a refreshing artist in this vicious world. What a wholesome boy and huge talent. My whole family are waiting for their AI show here in Toronto to see and watch him. It's mainly because of him and Ramielle (were immigrants from the Philippines) that's why we're buying tickets for their tour here.
Camille | 8:39 a.m. May 8, 2008
WAY TO GO DAVID!!! Glad to know you're going to sing the National Anthemn at the Jazz game, maybe you'll bring them some good luck!! GO DAVID AND GO JAZZ! AND WELCOME HOME!!!
Torontonians | 8:43 a.m. May 8, 2008
We're just north of the border, Canada and we can't wait for David A to come to Toronto for their AI tour. We're buying tickets for the whole family, orginally from the Philippines, just to see him and of course Ramielle.
Non-believer | 8:48 a.m. May 8, 2008
Oh pleeeeese. Your parents probably went ga ga over David Cassidy, Donny Osmond and the like. Oh well, why grow up. Enjoy the moment.
Sally | 8:55 a.m. May 8, 2008
Congrats to DAVID!!!!! You have been very consistent with your God-given talent, and deserve the accolades you're getting!!! How refreshing it is to be entertained by you!! Just always be true to yourself while you're on this fantastic journey!!!
PS. Jenny Miller---no offense, but you're spelling, punctuation, and grammar needs some work:)

David's singing is so touching that it often gives me chills and moves me to tears. I'm a fan! What's equally great is that he is a young man with a sterling character and high standards. That makes him a big winner whether or not he wins Idol.

Go Archie!
Anonymous | 9:18 a.m. May 8, 2008
I'm totally going. I love David!
JC | 9:36 a.m. May 8, 2008
Congrats to David A for making the final 3. He really does have a good voice but I really was disappointed with "Stand By Me". He did not do a good job on that song. Also to eveyone that says "his music" needs to understand that he has not done anything that is "his". He can sing other people's stuff and do it well but I think AI would be a lot better if they made the contestants perform their own music and not just someone else's songs every time. Mix in a little of both. But I still hope David A. wins and I intend to vote for him and Syesha.
Tj | 9:36 a.m. May 8, 2008
Isn't the Jazz game being shown on TNT on Friday night? I think it is so if you can't go to the game(like me) turn on TNT and listen to David then watch the game
Re:Tj | 9:58 a.m. May 8, 2008
It will be on ESPN and Fox will not allow it(the anthem) to be televised. Probalby will show part of it on Tuesday on their show; they may also find it unfair that David gets 1 extra song on national T.V. and the other 2 do not.
Bee | 10:48 a.m. May 8, 2008
I'm not a big fan of David's singing (I wanted Carly Smithson to win) but Archuletta's wholesomeness and goodness shine through and make us Utahns proud.
Bill from South Dakota | 11:09 a.m. May 8, 2008
I wish AI would come to some mid-America smaller cities. Rapid City has a great arena in its civic center. David is great. I and my family all gather on Tuesday nights to listen and vote. Keep it up!
Re: Tj | 11:22 a.m. May 8, 2008
I'm sure that would be unfair to see David A on national TV, but hopefully he'll get some immediate recognition. It'll probably be on youtube soon enough. David's a great singer and makes it seem easy and natural. Vote for him the next two weeks! He's one of the best!
re: non- believer | 11:43 a.m. May 8, 2008
And the Monkeys, so what is your point? I am a believer. The kid sings very well and a lot of people appreciate his talents and character amid an industry usually void of at least one of those.

Congratz David A.

You gotta love it. | 11:44 a.m. May 8, 2008
It just makes me laugh to see the politicians jumping on the band wagon. If there's a celebration somewhere, they think it's about them and have to ride in the convertable and wave to the adoring crowd.
Logan Utah | 12:05 p.m. May 8, 2008
We're all cheering for "Archie" up north in Cache County! Go David Go!!! You represent our state well!!! Remember to have fun!
Re: You gotta love it | 12:09 p.m. May 8, 2008
I agree with your comments about the politicians! Kinda funny. But maybe they're "Archie" fans as well.
Not as good as David Cook | 12:12 p.m. May 8, 2008
Go DAVID COOK! YOU HAVE ALL AROUND TALENT.
NOT AS GOOD AS DAVID COOK | 12:19 p.m. May 8, 2008
DAVID A. CAN SING BUT WHEN HE DOES ITS TOO MUSHY AND NOT UPBEAT. HE LOOKS LIKE HE IS GOING TO CRY EVERYTIME. THAT DRIVES ME NUTS. I LOVE DAVID COOK BECAUSE HE HAD OVERALL TALENT AND AN AMAZING POSITIVE PERSONALITY!
Steve - David Cook is Best | 12:50 p.m. May 8, 2008
I'm going to vote for David Cook heavily to help him make it to the final 2 (as he deserves). Then on the final show I will vote for Archuleta to help ensure Cook gets the BETTER position to wind up in career wise, 2nd place. The runner ups have more control over their own career/debut CD and history has shown the runner ups go on to do better than the winners (with the exception of 2 of them) so it's better NOT to win.

So let Archuleta win "Idol", but I hope the more well rounded and deserving person (David Cook) comes in 2nd.
Utah Fan | 1:03 p.m. May 8, 2008
Does anyone know how David is keeping up with his schoolwork while he's been on Idol? The kid is still 17, and is a student at Murray High School... sure would be a crying shame to see him fall behind in his education while working so hard chasing down his dream!

Hope he goes all the way!!!
Anonymous | 1:03 p.m. May 8, 2008
Go Archuletta, Go Jazz, Boo Cook, Boo Lakers
Merlin | 1:29 p.m. May 8, 2008
David A. is the best! I was so glad to see him showing a bit more confidence on Tue when he sang Stand By Me and Love Me Tender that CRUSHED the competition. You guys ought to listen to David A's songs on Youtube. I have them downloaded from itunes, of course. But if you don't want to do that, you can go on Youtube.com and then just search "David Archuleta Studio Version". You will see full recordings of several of his songs on AI. Listening to him leaves me breathless. David Cook is a good singer but his voice is ordinary. You can find plenty of David Cooks around. But David Archuleta's voice is so unique. His is one in a million. Added to that is his special ability to reach into your soul. When he sings, he sings with his heart which makes him very special indeed. He makes me want to be a better person. I don't think he wants to be hailed as a hero. He doesn't even want to be the center of attention yet he really deserves all the accolades. Congratz David A. We all LUV you!!!!

utah fan

he is required to go to school or something like a school for at least 3-4 hrs a day in L A. So he is keeping up on his school work/education.
christopher | 1:35 p.m. May 8, 2008
Win or lose, David Archuleta is the best singing talent to him an American Idol stage since Clay Aiken.
Congratulations David!!!!!
Katheryn | 1:45 p.m. May 8, 2008
VOTE FOR DAVID ARCHULETA! I practically consider it community service to vote for David. He has been savaged by many in the entertainment media. They are such a cynical bunch that they cannot believe his sweet and humble nature is genuine. I have quite frankly nearly been sick on many an occasion while reading stories about him manufacturing scandals or criticizing virtually everything about him. None of the other contestants have taken such a beating. I know that part of it has to do with his front-runner status, but I think that a great deal of it comes from a very dark place indeed. Our country is in the middle of a culture war: One that pits time tested ideals (so well represented by David) against a world in which there are no standards to be maintained. The latter is the one that many in the media prefer, and I think that explains in large part why they are like a pack of wolves circling around David. THE BEST THING WE CAN DO TO SUPPORT DAVID RIGHT NOW IS TO VOTE FOR HIM LIKE THERE IS NO TOMORROW, AND TO ENCOURAGE OTHERS TO VOTE FOR HIM TOO!
SLC native | 2:11 p.m. May 8, 2008
To KE:
Kudos to David but what "church" are you refering too? Catholic, Luthern, Mormon?
I am still simply amazed that everyone refers to the Mormon "Church" in SLC as if it is the only one.
Besides, David is a talented singer and it would not matter one bit if he was Agnostic, or Jewish. He would still be in the finals because of his voice, not his "church"!
Ken | 2:29 p.m. May 8, 2008
"If you can't get enough of Archuleta?" you ask? Well, despite his obvious vocal talents, I, for one, kinda HAVE had enough of this earnest young man, or at least his music.

Am I the only one a little bored with the now-very-predictable slow ballad song selections coming outta Boy Wonder? "Boooor-ring!"

Pick up the beat a little, David, and surprise us once. Please.
jt | 2:45 p.m. May 8, 2008
i still think that david needs some growing up. he does not speak well. he stutters and says i don't know alot. very nervous young man. david cooke is the winner and i will bet on that.
ciera mode | 3:09 p.m. May 8, 2008
david achulae so hot good sing
IdolWatcher | 4:03 p.m. May 8, 2008
Don't worry about David A winning. This stops being a singing competition once the preliminary rounds are over and the judges turn it over to America to vote. David A will win because this is ultimately a popularity contest, and not a contest to determine who is the best talent.
Anonymous | 5:06 p.m. May 8, 2008
There are some people that like ballads otherwise Josh Groban's career would be in the toilet. Josh is one of the top recording stars of all time. Josh's concerts sale sell for a premium and are sold out in every venue.
Steve - Re: Ken | 5:44 p.m. May 8, 2008
No, you're not alone. I enjoy ballads alot but I want some up-beat thrown in for variety. David has quickly come across to me as a "one trick pony", only able to sell a song if it's a ballad. He's yet to prove to me that he can do an up-tempo/dance/rock song well and really sell it and make it appear natural etc.

Last week in Neil Diamond week on "Idol" he chose two up-beat songs but somehow still managed to make them sound like a ballad (even with the music staying up-tempo). An odd feat huh? He seems to have only one style of singing, one way of delivery of the vocals and it sounds the same from song to song.

He can't do ballads only on a CD or at a concert or peopole will get bored eventually... maybe even doze off to sleep. Spice it up David! And work on your delivery of songs.... try to sound different from song to song. When doing an up-tempo, work on your lower register... put some grit into it when doing rock and maybe even deliver some lines softly and gently rather than full power ahead all the time.
