Comments about ‘Lawsuit against omnibus bill may surface soon’

A baseless threat by those who don't have the votes in the legislature that now are using the courts to achieve their destructive agenda. When the question is between the kids or the bureaucracy, we should be backing the kids, just like the legislature.

From everything I have read it is not baseless. The real kicker would be bills that were defeated by themsevles, then simply drafted into another bill without vote or amendment. That would be a problem. And having the courts review this is as basic as voting. This is the basis for Marbury v. Madison, and a corner stone of our Republic: Checks and balances.

Everyone get's to have their opinion. Mine is that I would like to see a legal challenge. I think what they did is contrary to what is allowed and they are using the power of their offices (Speaker of the House, Senate Majority Leader, Senate President) to basically stare down the opposition.

"There is a real risk if they make the case on this bill then you would have to, under equal protection and consistent application, go back and look at every bill that passed this session, and you could be setting aside and negating important legislation, much of which benefits the education community,"

A baseless threat indeed...by Bramble. He threatens citizens that if we challenge his ultimate wisdom, he and his cronies might go back and reconsider every education bill passed this session? Woe is me! The sky is falling, the sky is falling!

We're not talking about every bill, we're talking about THIS bill, and just because they got away with it before, doesn't make previous Omnibus bills constitutional either - just unchallenged.

We have three branches of government to assure that one branch doesn't get out of control. If ever there was a legislative branch that met that description, it's ours. Let the bill be challenged in the judicial branch. If the citizens are right, as they were on vouchers, Bramble and his cronies will just have to face the fact that they can't fool all of the people all of the time.

This bill actually resurrected 5 bills that had previously been defeated either in committee or on the floor. It also purposely ignored a bill for k-3 class size reduction money that had passed the house by 100% of the vote but stalled in the senate. It was brought out two days before the session ended and the rules were suspended so that they could shove it through. It was one of the worst examples of mis-use of legislative power that I have ever seen. The lawsuit is NOT about the election year--it's simply about poor legislation and taking power from the people who elected their representatives to vote for them. When a bill is voted down, it shouldn't be brought back and packaged with other necessary legislation and the forced through at the last minute.

Spending more tax payer money to cover up mistakes that the legislature made. They passed vouchers knowing the majority of the people wanted no part of it and look how much money on both sides was wasted in the subsequent fight. Could not have that money been better spent elsewhere? Now they roll into one bill several bills that they themselves had already defeated and are not popualar in the general public. It sounds like they have their own agenda and it is different from the general public.

Senator Bramble has the chutzpah to claim "grandstanding"?!?! Please Utah County Voters: do us ALL a favor and vote this man out of office as soon as possible. He's an embarrassment to legislature and his tactics are stupid at best and deceitful and illegal at worst. Anybody need a float for the parade?

I have been a republican my entire adult life, this type of legislative manipulation is shameful. It is another example of "We will do whatever we want to do, not what the citizens want.' Congratulations Senator Bramble and the rest of the the Senate and House Leadership for convincing me to seriously look at the other party. At least they show repect to their constituency.
