Cannon is just plain corrupt. What arrogance. And did you see how much of his campaign money came from within Utah? 7.5%............. gee whilikers people.

Cannon is not corrupt. He is late on his report and that makes him corrupt? Have you ever filed your taxes late? Paid a parking or speeding ticket late? How about your mortgage or utilities? Credit card bill? If you have ever seen one of these reports it is like doing your taxes on steroids. Over the years I have seen these reports spill into dozens and dozens of pages.

I think some people need to go watch the Godfather. Watch the scene where the three main characters talk about dealing with the mafia Don trying to kill their father. Michael Corleone lays out a plan to shoot the other Don and the corrupt Police Captain. He finishes the scene by saying,"It's not personal. It's business."

This campaign has become so personal to some that they have lost all objectivity. If Chris Cannon got a flat tire many on this list would claim he was running drugs or had a dead body in the trunk of his car. For the rest of the readers on this board makes it hard to consider anything you say.

Also note, Chaffetz is getting whipped. Will say anything to get some media attention/votes.

No BBKING, I don't pay my bills late and the one time I filed my taxes late -I had the proper paperwork filed by others to get an extension. This is the type of matter that you have a staff take care of. Rep, Cannon is not doing Utah any good, the man still lives in the past and his 15 min of fame with the Clinton impeachment hearings. This November when the GOP gets kicked out of office all across this country Cannon should go too. More ridiculous statements have come out of that man's mouth since B-1 Bob Dornan the famous Rep from S. Calif, they got rid of him.
If the form is such a bear, and Canon has been in 6 terms, somebody ought to know how to do it properly. Yes, my own tax return when I signed it about 4 weeks ago was 112 pages long, I don't prepare my own, I have well qualified people do it for me while I take care of the business at hand.

I can tell you that I was recently part of a team of health care providers who traveled to Washington D.C. at our own expense to make congressional visits. The purpose of the visits was to improve access of care for medicare patients and to lobby for increased educational opportunities in underserved medical areas. Each member of our congressional delegation was gracious and either individually or with a staffer spent time with us... Except Mr. Cannon. His office would not actually allow us to even make an appointment with a staffer. I would just guess that we weren't enough of a special interest or large enough of a group to have an audience. Needless to say, we were less than impressed.

BBKing: NO...I have never been late on ANY payment or report and if I can do it, so should someone who wants to represent me. We should only accept the best to represent us and expect the best from them...especially when they have an office staff to help them accomplish their assignments on time.

Finally, a candidate who is civil toward his opponents. Thank you, David Leavitt, for showing us what it means to look past a mistake and focus on issues. It makes me sick that Jason Chaffetz has nothing better to do than blast Cannon for an error like this. If how one runs a campaign is indicative of how he/she will be in office, I wouldn't want to see Chaffetz in office.

I also traveled to Washington DC and our best reception was with the Congressman. Understandably, however, the other members of the delegation had a lot to do. Going there during the session is always hit and miss with members of congress. Anyone who knows anything about the way that town works will understand. Cannon is usually the most accommodating when we go to talk with him, even though some years it doesn't work out. Let's face it, folks, he's not the greatest public presenter but he's a heck of a policy wonk and a good representative. If you want flash and flair, maybe he's not the guy. And that's a legitimate debate. I know he's a hard worker, however, and the vitriol he gets is generally undeserved. Let's keep the debate on the merits, not fight with low blows.

I think what Leavitt was saying is "be tolerant if they think like us" If they are of the other party or are different in some way (race/gender/orientation) then smash them when they make a mistake. If we could take him at his word, or any polititian for that matter if they said the same thing, it would be a much better world but I don't think politics works very well with tolerance and diversity. It should, it just doesn't.

A definition of political insanity is electing the same incumbent over and over, but expecting different results. Cannon's record speaks for itself. Even though he says he opposes illegal immigration he still supports amnesty and there is no reason to think he has learned his lesson from the past two primaries and made any real change. He will never be an advocate for us against illegal immigration, but he will make the politically expedient votes.

So he missed a report. The story will be if they don't ever file the report or if they do and there is something fishy. Otherwise seems like a simple mistake on a slow news day. Like him or not I still think Cannon is the best guy for Utah. He's obviously conservative, he's tough (he took on Bill Clinton), and he's got the seniority a small state like ours needs. Why changes horses mid-stream?

Well, I stand corrected. There are three people in the state of Utah that have never been late on paper work, and they all responded to this story.

Over the years I have seen state agencies miss deadlines, school districts miss deadlines, political action committees, etc, etc. I remember one year a school district accidentally destroyed all end-of-year tests, for the entire district. Mistakes are going to happen.

And no, not on the payroll for Cannon. Or even close to it. I have met Cannon on numerous occasions but I' sure lots of people on this story have as well. Nothing special there. And I am not a Republican delegate either, have been in the past.

I should add that others responded to my post in better fashion. Take me to task for logic or reason, not for employment. That is not the strongest foot forward. Seems rather synical.

"Loose" Cannon has missed more than filing dates over the years. During those same years, there have actually been a couple of Democrat candidates for his job. But, oh no, not in Utah County. They'd rather have any Republican than a qualified Democrat. I'm not a Democrat by any stretch, but if I lived in Utah County I would seriously consider it.

NOT filing is okay? I thought elected officials were held to a higher standard than the general public. Maybe a late filing is okay for a "common citizen", but Cannon CLAIMS to be 'holier than thou' thus should be held to such a standard.

David Leavitt is civil? Have you seen the santimonious smirk he gets on his face after making his 'civil' comments? I have. It's scary. I would much rather have someone with passion, who is not afraid to say it like they see it, than someone like Cannon or Leavitt, who can't say anything straight out. Mr. Chaffetz is right. Not filing is indictative of the way Cannon has been in office. About 40% of the time he never even bothered to vote. That makes him conservative? The word I would use is lazy or appathetic. We had a similar experience to Bombadil, only Cannon did sit down with them, but was so inattentive he fell asleep on the couch instead of listening to what representatives of our guys in uniform had to say.
