Trash Fish

Are they even fit to use as fertilizer?

"Planting" one with your pumpkin seeds give great results. If they issue a warning here not to eat them then it should apply to other countries. Don't sell out human life to make a buck.

How will they net the carp in a way to avoid catching the suckers? Can it be done on a large scale?

I'd hate to think of these fish being used for fertilizer for fruits and vegetables, and the thought of feeding contaminated food to my pets is also abhorrent. The fish are TOXIC. They're not safe to be eaten, used for pet food or "dumped" anywhere - unless it's a toxic waste facility.

Ah, we have met the enemy and it is us. Carp with pcbs. Now what.

This comes from not having an environmental policy that simple reads: do not mess in your nest. Too many people, too much arrogance, too much greed. Laws too lax. Fear of restrictions ... need the freedom to mess in our nest.

and now we reap what we have sown. surprise!

issues

We introduced the Carp into the lake, we introduced the PCBs into the lake. We messed up the lake! At least now there's a plan to restore the lake. Use them as fertilizer, the PCB will dissapate into the surrounding soil and won't impact plants. Do something. There was no complaint when Strawberry Res. was poisoned several years ago with its fish removed and disposed of, in order to restore the Res. Do the same here and dispose of the fish in a fitting manner. Let's fix the lake and make it again the jewel of the valley!

Chemophobia is real

The average amount of PCBs in the carp is tiny; you probably ingest as much from your daily diet, including other types of fish you might enjoy. There's no reason the carp shouldn't be sold for food because they meet federal guidelines.

The fact that something is toxic doesn't mean it's hazardous to your health; the overall dose determines whether or not it's poisonous.

Or to put it more simply: swallowing two asprin will relieve your headache, swallowing a whole bottle will kill you. According to the logic of some here we shouldn't be using asprin, as it might kill us.

no way

In pet food, well that's just great. Now we can watch for a nationwide cat die-off in about 6 months.

I highly doubt you ingest these levels of PCBs from your daily diet, but without some sort of evidence nobody can do anything but speculate.

As for the aspirin analogy, keep in mind that PCBs build up in your fat tissue and NEVER leave.

What about serving the carp as a food source for the prison system nationwide. If we have millions in prison and millions of pounds of carp. Lets use the resources of a plentiful food source to feed our convicted citizens. Can I patend this idea and also make millions.

Hoping for a cure for Utah Lake as I am a bi-weekly boat operator on the lake.

sell them to the chinese, probably less PCBs than the fish they sell us,or the farm rised carp they eat themselves.difficult to get rid of them using commercial fishig gear, can forget it.

Someone out there needs to invent a way to eradicate suckers! There must be a parasite or a disease that preys on carp and not on other organisms that can be introduced in the thousands of lakes and streams to kill out this scourge! I'm sure the reward would be in the millions! Then you'd be advertising for sportsmen to come to spend money in your area! PLEASE! someone take this challenge. (our lake is filled with them and starving out our trout!)
