Good for them!

Glad to see the west side hired some heavy hitters in the legal world to help resolve this mess. There goes more of our dollars to lawyers when that money could be going to kids. Thanks east-side voters!

Proud westsider

The east-side voted to split, the east-side should pay the costs to get their district started. Maybe the east-siders should be called the easy-siders.

who?

So who did they retain? That seems to be an obvious omission to the story.

Steve

Seems pretty easy to me . . . the East-siders are abandoning the former "marriage." So, just like many divorces, the East-siders should lose virtually ALL of its assets. West-siders, who didn't want the split, should be able to SELL Alta High, Jordan High, Hillcrest High and other schools to the East-siders. Then, let the East-siders tax themselves into poverty to pay for the purchase or construction of their schools (kind of like what they must have originally envisioned the West-siders should have to do!)

Just like any divorce . . .

. . . the rich get what they want, the poor get shafted.

annon.

what about the fact that the east side carried the west side for years. who was the primary tax base while the west was exploiting the east during explosive growth? who paid the majority of the taxes while being told you have to do with less because the west side needs more? whos kids were put second because the west side needed money and equipment and buildings?

let the west side pay its own way for once. why should the east side continue to be the red headed step child eating bread and water while the west side gets the newest schools and the newest equipment.

no it is time for the west side to handle its own affairs on the backs of ites own bse and not on the east sides...for once.

What ????

So while I have lived on the west side all these years, the tax money I have paid to the jordan school district just magically disappeared ? None of it was used to build Hillcrest, Brighton, Alta, or the new Jordan High and all of the feeder schools to these high schools ? Me thinks you speak of that which you are clueless annon. The growth is on the west side now, and the east side residents assumed (incorrectly) that they could sneak out of the district before they would have to do what we on the west side have done for over 100 years. Pay for schools our children will not use !! Too bad you all were misinformed about your choice to split. I guess now it is time to pay the Piper for 100 years of dancing.

Annon.
... I hope you can remember the time before the explosive growth in the west that they helped you build your school's. Namely Kennecott and other west side cash cows whose tax base built your schools. Do some research!

Amazed at ignorance!!!

Annon must have moved to Utah within the last 10 years. Annon needs to educate himself before he spouts off about whose tax base built what. I grew up in the JSD - living on the west side when the east side was getting all the new schools. My parents and grandparents paid those taxes! When my children started school - on the west side - I was paying taxes - all those years our taxes were not going to build new schools for the west side - only the east because that is where the growth was. Well - now the growth is on the west side - east side should have been as accomodating!! Annon - get your facts straight - or are you related to Cottonwood Heights mayor?
