oh boy well thats too bad.....

Oh well. It could have gone to either Long Beach or BYU. You could make an argument for both but BYU really can't argue that the decision was unfair.

Exactly what BYU deserves along with interim coach Shawn Patchell. Hopefully he'll be gone next year....

This is what happens when you have players coaching the team and no real coach and no one in the athletic department who cares about volleyball. What ever happened to Coach Carl McGowan?????

No killer instinct

Typical BYU athletics. Hate to generalize about our beloved Cougs, but this phenomena seems to be the norm for most every BYU sports team. A failure to win the big games.

Imagine up two games and leading 29-27 in the third and fail to obtain match point. Then lose the last two soundly. A lack of heart or coaching??

Hopefully that will change beginning next football season when the Cougs will beat both BCS squads they face before sweeping through the MWC again.

Volleyball is a game of momentum. Once it starts it is hard to turn off. That is what happened to the Y.

Congrats are still in order

When I played volleyball for BYU in 1982 it was still a club team and the idea of ever playing in NCAA sanctioned tournaments was just a dream. I believe that BYU's success in VB has created an expectation for success that is hard to achieve year after year. It's too bad that BYU didn't move on to the Final Four and get a chance to play for the title, but they had an outstanding season and should be congratulated for their efforts.

Sports at BYU, so weird when it comes to winning the big opportunities. Haven't won a NCAA game in a generation; lose very winnable volleyball series two or three years in a row; baseball and golf haven't sniffed anything close to regional in years. Is there a chance the football boys will go undefeated in the conference three years in a row??

I would like to thank the fabulous seniors for an unbelievable year, and career in BYU Volleyball. It is really tragic that these brilliant performers did not get a shot at a national championship during their career at the BYU.

I would also like to thank the person, or persons, who posted the volleyball results and statistics on the Internet so promptly for us "died in the wool" BYU fans who cannot see many BYU sports events in person, but who hang on to every word in print about the BYU. For more than 60 years I have been watching, recording, and/or keeping track of BYU sports, and loving it.

It was a tough loss Saturday, but the team this year has still been great. The seniors were amazing all year and did an amazing job at making BYU volleyball exciting all year long. Great job Cougs!

BYU Fan (The Original)

BYU not going to the final four as an at large team is simply outrageous....there is no other way to look at it. Two matches on the road to LBSU....? that's a crock. But not closing out Pepperdine is not good. Having a final four is not right either. Why not have a real tournament? Only four teams to the national tournament? That is simple not the thing to do. They should have a legitimate tournament and have at least sixteen teams....the top teams in the rankings. Come on!!!!!!!BYU definitely got the shaft.

I love Cougar volleyball!!!!

BYU had a great season, but got the shaft in the end. BYU will never get a break when it's left up to a committee to vote in any sport!! Too bad they couldn't pull it out with all those seniors!!! They were awesome to watch!! Patchell's done a great job!!

Justin

The committee/ world will always be against the Cougs...any chance they get to short change them they will take. That is a disappointing reality that we have been facing since the begging. Let's just get them next time.

Volleball tournament

They should do away with the West, Midwest and East qualifying tournaments all together. The top 8 teams in the country should get together for an Elite 8 - single game elimination tournament. The 8 teams should be the top 8 according to record and SOS. Teams should be rewarded on their performance in the regular season. BYU, Long Beach State, Penn State and Pepperdine would be my final four if I were choosing.

Karma stinks, right Coach Patchell?

Come on now! What good does it do to criticize some of the hardest working coaches, and especially the kids. My gosh. They give their ALL to us, week after week giving us GREAT PLEASURE watching the greatest sport on the planet. Volleyball!! Unfortunately we have to live with rules. It is VERY obvious that BYU, Penn State, Pepperdine, and Long Beach should have been the final four. It is also just as obvious that the rules on how this tournament takes place has got to change. BYU boys, we love ya!! You had an awesome season and we are so very proud of all of you! Ivan, Russell, Trent,Johnathan, and Brian we will miss you massively. Keep up the great work wherever life takes you. You are all terrific kids and deserve the very best. And for you that remain to carry the BYU torch, Keep up the good work. I can't wait until next season!!
