And to cap it off, the refs missed an obvious offensive goal tending (interference) call at the end of the game that would have taken two points away from Houston. But why cry over spilled milk?
Davey | 2:51 a.m. April 27, 2008
The game should have never been this close.... And not because the Jazz played poorly, but because the refs blew a huge call! On Landry's layup with 3:12 to play he CLEARLY steps out of bounds, his whole right foot is over the baseline and it didn't get called. Go back and watch the highlight, I'll give you a moment to find it....

It doesn't matter in the bigger picture because the Jazz still go the W, but it just makes me mad that the whole city of Houston cried for 3 days after the Scola/Kirelinko play, and this just goes to show that you can't let one play determine the outcome of a game. Great win tonight, now lets send T-Mac home for the second year in a row!

Where did Boozer's game go? It seems like the last three weeks it has been MIA. I sure hope he can get it back for the Lakers series.

boozer has got to start to be more effective, too many misses, but at least he canned his freebies
3 pointers | 7:34 a.m. April 27, 2008
If we would have made 1/3 our 3 pointers we would have won by 15, 1/2 20, 3/4 30. Houston was lucky they were lucky Korver was off tonight or it wouldn't have been a game. We still have yet to play a good game against this team and still have managed to win 3 out of 4. Is Houston that bad? or are we that good?
Tim | 8:26 a.m. April 27, 2008
I swear that some jazz player always has the stomach flu. They must have a bad team diet.
Hugh G. Hater | 8:47 a.m. April 27, 2008
Another Boozer no show. 13 pts won't cut it in THE PLAYOFFS.

The jazz are done next series. Sad but true.
Boozer - a plea for help! | 9:02 a.m. April 27, 2008
Does anyone else miss a power forward who plays like a power forward and not a 12 year old school girl? I don't expect Karl Malone flying through the lane with a hammer dunk, but shouldn't a sculpted 6' 9" 260 lb man be able to use his body a bit more to get good layups or at least more free thrown opportunities? i don't quite understand the presistent fall away jump shots (okay malone did that too, but not this early in his career).

The Jazz have relatively no inside strong inside threat, the fact that they get significant points in the pain is deceptive because of their great cutting, not any strong player inside.

If Booz is reading this, and I love your game, but want you for once, just once, to run over Mutumbo, dunk on him or give him an elbow like Karl would have done. I guarantee he will get out of the way next time.

Honestly who can stand Tracy??? The guy is so full of him self.. Is any one surprised that he is 0-6 in the post season with that attidude? & what is he thinking about acting like he doesn't know who D-will is?? What was that all about in his post game interviews?? Not very smart on his part.. D-Will nice work last night you were the star of the GAME... Thank You
well | 9:16 a.m. April 27, 2008
the biggest reason wht boozer is not playing good is because the rockets are throwing everything i mean everythin at him like there is not a moment when there is not about three guys on him but it looks like working but were still winning
Tmoney | 9:20 a.m. April 27, 2008
Boozer's game is somewhat of an enigma right now he's getting shots blocked not finishing at the rim. Last year he dunked all over the Rockets this years he is just laying balls up. What happened to the Boozer who attached the rim with reckless abandon. I'm starting to wonder if he isn't a little bit injured because he doesn't seem to have the same explosiveness. Houston plays good Defense I have to give it up to them for that, but Jazz players in general should be finishing better.
ID Jazz | 9:27 a.m. April 27, 2008
I agree sob.

Not only has Boozer disappeared but so has Milsap. A combined 4-16 is not going to lift them to the next level at that position. When the design of the offense is to go through the power forward position to the inside and then out. You have to get some scores or the opposing team just has to guard the perimeter cause thats where the Jazz are all standing. That is what has happened the last two games. Not sure why Dwill has gone away from what worked in the games in Houston and that is pushing the ball up the court before there defense is set and catching them off guard and the last two games were lucky to get the ball across before the 8 sec. call. Maybe his booty is hurting but pushing the ball has definitely worked better. We have not seen the Jazzes best game yet so hopefully there are some good things to come. Go JAZZ
come together | 9:29 a.m. April 27, 2008
So if the Jazz are making their 3's then they miss a bunch of free throws and if they make most of their free throws then they miss all their 3's?? Ok here's the new plan: make your 3's AND your free throws!

And what about the officiating for this series?!! These officials really STINK!!! I've never seen so many bad calls and missed calls in playoff games. Is it because it's Utah and the really good refs don't want to come here? ("YOU go officiate in Utah!") I thought the NBA was supposed to pull together the best refs they have for the playoffs. Uh oh, here's the bad news: I think they did.
Hay ESA Jazz Fann..... | 9:42 a.m. April 27, 2008
Great noise your guys made, the rest of us Jazz fans are proud of you for that. BUT, QUIT CHANTING MVP WHILE D-WILL IS TRYING TO SINK FREEBEES. YOU ALMOST COST US THE GAME!!!!! Now Houston Fan knows what to do, chant MVP while he is at the line. Sometimes Jazz Fan is too stupid to breath.

Boozer, good job on the free throws and your D looked a little bit better. You are still a sissy when it means going to the hole. Are you afraid of Mutombo? MAN UP BOOZ! You keep taking the 12-15 foot fader when you could go to the hole to get fouled. Your shooting is horrible, but I will give you credit for the free throws. You could be unstoppable if you wanted to be. Good thing Memo had desire or we would have lost no matter what the refs did or didn't do.

Jazz fan, quit complaining over refs. Yes they blew calls but I am sure they didn't go into the ESA to purposely make bad calls. I saw bad calls and no calls on both sides.

GO JAZZ!!!
JazzFan4ever | 9:55 a.m. April 27, 2008
I was at the game in person and realized a few things.Houston really does play great defense but the Jazz are surely the most underrated defensive team in the league as well. That was truly a defensive battle that you usually don't see till the finals. It is not the same cakewalk that the lakers are getting with Denver. If the Jazz can close this one out with Houston and face the Lakers I think the Lakers are in for a surprise.
Also too those complaining about the threes you need to open your eyes. Like I said, I was there in person and Houston played them close (really close). No Jazz player got an open look from 3 land last nght. The Jazz played a hard fought game and Houston is alot tougher than the rest of TVLand is giving them credit for.
excuses? | 10:28 a.m. April 27, 2008
hmmm jazz fans are making excuses for missed 3 pters. if the rockets had won, they would be "MISSED CONTESTED 3s COSTS THE GAME". jazz fans are talking about "man boozer is doing bad" and "Boozer is haveing an off game." do you jazz fans ever wonder that ROX D shut him out? if you actually watched the game you ccould see boozer is just settling for contested jumpers.

also, jazz doesnt play great defense. they are not a good defensive team. jazz fans are blinded by what they do. jazz are a physical team or as most other people put it, DIRTY. after every foul the jazz commit, they have a confused look on their face like they didnt foul. What really put the icing on the cake is when BOOZER INTENTIONALLY FOULED CARL LANDRY TO PREVENT AN EASY DUNK, OFFICIALS CALLED NOTHING. boozer looked confused as to no call. dispite teh refs, rockets again shot poorly from the FT line, shot poorly from teh field, got outrebounded, COMMITED MORE FOULS THAN THE LEAADING FOULING TEAM IN THE NBA, dispite all of this, rox were 1 reb from sneaking in a win. if anything, jazz will choke in 7
page | 10:30 a.m. April 27, 2008
all i can say is watching the jazz is flat out frustrating
B. White | 10:34 a.m. April 27, 2008
The Jazz had a lot of good looks from the 3 point line. If they would have made any of those the game would've been iced a lot earlier.

Props on shooting an absolute zero from 3 point line and still winning the game.
IowaJazzMan | 10:48 a.m. April 27, 2008
Boozer=soft. Just accept it. That way his weak games like last night, won't be so hard to understand. If D-Will could give Booz 1/8 of his heart, Boozer would be the best PF in the game. Won't happen.
Jazz Fan | 11:00 a.m. April 27, 2008
We're up three to one against the team that won 22 straight games in the regular season.

It has been an awesome, methodical destruction, physical and mental, of a very good team.

Is anybody watching?

Go Jazz!

Hey Jazzies how do you think your going to do against the Spurs. I say Spurs because I think you have a good chance of getting past LA. I don't think your gonna beat the Spurs. Anyway great series. I wish we were giving you a better run for your money. Don't be to hard on Booz. Houston is a very good defensive team. Then again if you don't want him send him our way.
UltimateJazzFan | 12:13 p.m. April 27, 2008
Hey Rockets94/08
Appreciate the comments. Me personally - I'll keep Booz!! And thanks for the props on getting past the Lakers. Can't stand Bryants holier than Thou attitude so I hope we knock them down. Nice to see someone with class entering comments! The only thing I can say about TMac (T-baby!!) is "really - sinking low enough to pretend you don't know Deron's name when your at the podium for interviews? No class!!!! That was such a pathetic show of poor sportsmanship!!" If you can't get it right - just call him MVP. That works for me.

Great game Jazz - even with the mistakes you came out on top. And Boozer - Love the fact he went in early to shoot free throws. That shows dedication and heart. And look how well it worked. He did awesome!

Go Jazz - You rocked he Rockets! Keep it up!
LV JazzFan | 12:21 p.m. April 27, 2008
Tell you what Rockets 94/08... Send us Yao and Tracy and Luis Scola or Carl Landry and we will send you Booz. That is what it would take.

I gotta say I don't understand why Korver was in for the last 6 mins of the game. Brewer was having a superior night from the field and was doing a good job of hounding McGrady. Normal rotation or not, this is the playoffs and you have got to play the guys that are bringing it.
Anonymous | 12:36 p.m. April 27, 2008
T-Mac is so annoying!!!! All he does is make excuses he is such a poor sport:
Game 1: He said his team mates didn't step up.
Game 2: He blamed the refs and said Ak flopped and that supposedly lost them the game and his legs were tired (baby you get paid millions you shoud be able to handle it).
Game 3: actually won (the jazz lost but you didn't hear them make excuses)
Game 4: He hit the ball off the glass and "karl mis timed it" so memo got the critical rebound. Again he blames his team, he blamed his coach for not putting Dikembe in when D-Will shot his last FT.

Then his stupid little comments like is his name D-e-r-u-n or is it D-a-r-on. Come on please you are just plain stupid if you dont know one of the best PG's in the league! You just lit the fire of Deron Williams!!!!! Some one needs to poke your good eye!
Jazz? | 1:21 p.m. April 27, 2008
Last night was first the continuation of Boozer's playoff shooting woes. He hasn't stepped up yet. Boozer had plenty of open shot- he flat out missed them. Okur had plenty of open shots, he just missed them.

They play tough defense, but you have to have balance. Jerry Sloan has got his team playing well as always, but unless they start hitting shots- and quit making excuses, they are going to get torched by everyone else.

D-Will is Utah's All-Star- he proved it last year and shows again how he can elevate himself in the playoffs.

Lastly, the refs were so inconsistent last night. Don't come near 2 feet of McGrady and your going to get a foul. What gives? D-Will wasn't getting any calls, yet McGrady is a choir boy? The NBA's officials are so biased towards its perceived "Stars."

Challenge to Boozer and Okur start making your shots! If not, pass the ball to someone else. You're offense stinks.
ESA | 2:21 p.m. April 27, 2008
let me repost this since jazz fan are over looking the obvious. BOOZER INTENTIONALLY FOULED CARL LANDRY TO PREVENT AN EASY DUNK, OFFICIALS CALLED NOTHING. boozer looked confused as to no call.

also, how does the most physical team in the last 20 years commit less fouls than the rox? EASY, MORE TICKY TACK CALLS ON THE ROX.
ROCKETS will win game 5, game 6 is where which team wants it more
TucsonUte | 2:25 p.m. April 27, 2008
I don't what was worse...watching the Jazz blow the 16 point lead or listening to ESPN color commentator Rick Carlisles man crush for Tracy McGrady.

Until McGrady plays on a team that wins a playoff series he has to be one of the most overrated players of all time in the NBA.
oregon fan | 4:00 p.m. April 27, 2008
Is there anyone of you crybabies watching the playoff game between the Jazz and Rockets? in case you are not, the jazz is leading the series 3 to 1 how much better can you be, than to have the lead against a good team that won 24 straight games this season?! get a life!
go jazz go!
Justin | 4:01 p.m. April 27, 2008
The entire media has a crush on T-Mac. It's kind of annoying the Jazz are just a consistent winning team with great players who do what's expected of them so every round the media will be talking about the stories of the other teams. This round it's Tracy's pathetic playoff record. Next round it's Kobe's first MVP, as well as the impact of Gasol and the chance that the Lakers and Celtics might play each other. Luckily the WCF should give the Jazz some good publicity with either the competition between Deron and Paul or the rematch of the Jazz and Spurs, with both teams playing a similar game with similar type players. If they make it to the finals, the media will be going for the Celtics, without a doubt. Oh well, I think fans love to be the underdog, and the Jazz are great at flying under the radar and quietly silencing other teams.
Hat's off to Rockets | 4:09 p.m. April 27, 2008
The series is not over yet. If a team as talented as the Nuggets had the heart of the Rockets they'd pummel the Lakers. Watching the Jazz play the Rockets is agonizing because the Rockets allow nothing easy; their defense is brutal.

The Jazz better show up for game 5 because the Rockets do not carry themselves as beaten summer breakers eager to clear out their lockers.

Those lazy, lobbing passes the Jazz can't stop themselves from tossing need to stop. A wheelchair bound blind man could pick those off. If this weren't something I'd noticed over the season I'd credit the flustering effect of an honestly solid Rocket defense, but I've been watching those ridiculous passes all season.

Kudos to Okur for grabbing D Will's choked free throws. I do hope D Will heard T Mac's post game comments about not knowing his name. If I'm a Rocket fan, I'm thinking that's a pretty stupid thing to say down 3 to 1 and facing elimination next game. They still lost while hitting multiple threes and the Jazz's utter futility from long range. Still, I nod my head to a hard fighting team that will not quit.
Bigjaszzfan | 4:18 p.m. April 27, 2008
Face it jazz fans perfomances like this will never get us past the lakers:

And Face it:

Boozer is what is he is. He will never be more.

And as long as boozer is the focus of the offense the jazz will never win a chamionship.

It didn't happen with malone it certainly will not with boozer.

What profit a man to get all the double doubles in the world and not win a championship?

Only his career stats and his pocket book.

And as good as deron is he not a tier one star( a goto guy or dominant bigman). Atleast not yet.

Maybe in few more years. We can hope. If he is still with the team.

But I mostly blame management for over valuing the bigmen the jazz have had like ostertag, AK, and now boozer.

Not leaving any money or opportunity to get a real tier one star.

I would say maybe next year, but paraphrasing yogi berra: it will be deja vu all over again.

It's like groundhog day we living the same season over and over again, never winning a championship. 25 years in a row now and counting.

hopeful | 5:05 p.m. April 27, 2008
To Bigjaszzfan.

Sadly ..... I agree. We should win this series but lurking in the background will be a Lakers team with the confidence of a rat terrier waiting to eat us alive. We will not get past them playing like this. We will have to bring it every game.

It worries me that the management appointed "stars" have not shown that they can carry the team on their back and get us to the promised land. Even Malone choked more than we care to admit. I want this champion as much as anyone, but I cant see us getting there being carried by our bench.

After game three Boozer called for the ball more and in game 4 he got it shooting a very unimpressive 3 for 13. And it took Deron into the second half of the same game to get things going. And they all keep saying "we havent played our best game yet". WELL THEN PLAY IT! WE'D LOVE TO SEE IT.

The Lakers have a guy that they can go to when the offense breaks down and he will deliver more often than not. GET IT TOGETHER JAZZ. WE WANT BACK IN THE FINALS!!

Deron Williams will be MVP in the next few years. The kid plays with so much heart. My question is where is Korvers game. We need someone to shoot the 3-point shots and make them. Brewer an AK have done a good job of guarding T-Mac but you can't forget about Alston and Battie they are just as good shooting from the outside. As for T-Mac he needs to stop pouting and just play the game. I for one am also getting real tired of Doug Collins and his going on and on about McGrady and the Rockets he is so biased I almost turn the sound off when he's announcing a game. Come on Jazz finish this series Tuesday night so your fans can stop hearing about poor McGrady and the Rockets and you can start showing the Lakers what you can do. Goooo JAZZ!!!
cstew | 6:31 p.m. April 27, 2008
I love how T-Mac blamed Landry for the missed rebound at the end of the game. He said Landry "mistimed" his jump. If you watch the replay you can clearly see that T-Mac came over and knocked the rebound away from Landry and right into Memo's hands.
Fixwix | 7:31 p.m. April 27, 2008
Don't agree that the Jazz need a "tier one" star. The Jazz don't have just one all star, they have a constellation of stars. Basketball should be about a team not an individual. I'm impressed when I see stat sheets that 4 or 5 in double figures and not one individual with 40 points.

Game 4 is a well matched game, Houston had a chance to win the game, but thank to MEMO for that big offensive rebound!!..I hope the Jazz will end this series in Game 5 in order to have a big statement going into the next round, I think Houston would not allow that easily for the Jazz, they don't want to loose 3 in a row at their home right??I know the Jazz already know that the Rockets will be fired up in Game 5,so they should prepare for that, proper mind set and strong mentality could be the winning formula for the Jazz,if the Jazz can out-smart them even though they are all fired up,then this series is done after Game 5..Go Jazz!
Freethrows | 9:34 p.m. April 27, 2008
Despite Boozer's shooting woes, his freethrows were great. Kiri, Millsap, Brewer Harpring, need to follow Boozer's example and practice 100 freethrows. Deron needs to practice 200 freethrows...everynight.

Who knows? Maybe we can win with multiple tier-two stars like Detroit 2004.

I think Scola is going to be really really good in a few years once he adjusts to NBA play.
2nd Tier Players? | 11:37 p.m. April 27, 2008
Bigjaszzfan:
I guess if Williams and Boozer shot as much as your Kobe and McGrady, you would consider them 1st tier players. Williams scored 17 points on 11 shots, imagine if he got 30 shots on a nightly basis like Kobe, or take last game, McBaby shooting 25 times. Then add all the ticky tack foul that your McBaby, Kobe, Carmelo, Iverson get. Yes he could easily average 30 points a game. As for Boozer, he is not shooting good because he gets fouled more times then not. When he drives they call offensive. No wonder he is conservative. And why is that?

The reality of the game is the NBA wants this series to go 7 games or at least be close and high in the ratings. Utah gets up by 16 and the refs go on vacation. When the game is called fair, the Jazz are the superior team.

And its getting OLD hearing this same ole crap after every game. It only shows how uneducated you are about NBA basketball.

Bigjazzfan | 12:13 a.m. April 28, 2008
The criteria for teir one is simple and it is NOT about the number of shots a player a takes:

Criteria one: are they a goto guy, can you count on them in waning moments of a game, can they make things happen?

Criteria two: are they a dominant bigman.

Were raheeed wallace and ben wallace dominant big men?
Were billups and hamilton goto guys?

Maybe they were, maybe the league was week, maybe it is the exception that proves the rule. I don't know but they seem to be the odd team.

Mcgrady hasn't won a championship. so maybe he is not teir one. But I never sai he was.

I never said who wasm just who thought wasn't on the jazz.

Who was the last jazz player to make three pointer to win a playoff game? Stockton maybe? and I don't even consider him teir one because wasn't offensive minded enough. And as good as was as a point guard I never seem him take over game, not like magic or jordon or even isiah thomas.

deron is showing potential to be a teir one but maybe in few years.
jerry sloan | 12:30 a.m. April 28, 2008
jerry is sloan is a solid coach, unlike his peers solid doesnt shine brighter than spectacular. phil jackson coached MJ and only MJ to beat stockton and malone. back to back. given the jazz one of the worse loses in playoff history(40) points. that was just a decade ago. after taking the bulls to 6 championships he then took the lakers to 3 championships in a row. at that moment jazz still were nothing and non existent. jazz last year made it to the conference finals because of the choking mavs to face the spurs where they got spanked back to UTAH. Utah playing versus an experienced spurs team only lasted 5 games. last years utah's team was a lot better than this years. mentally boozer is weak. getting passed the rockets this year proved to be hard even with yaoless and alstonless for 2 games. even if the jazz do get past the depleted rockets in the first round, they will face a healthy lakers team with maybe bynum coming back. the other team that beat utah at home this season is no other than the lakers. rockets in 7 or lakers in 5
yo | 1:03 a.m. April 28, 2008
for all of you that make fun of the jazz d. they do foul a little too much. but all that really matters is if they win the game. i could careless what the refs say... as long as the jazz win im happy. and kobe is going to turn into t-mac and try to do it all himself vs utah
UjTaAzHz | 1:43 a.m. April 28, 2008
The truth is that the Rockets are one of the best defensive teams in the league, and their main strategy is to hound Boozer and D Will...

The main difference is that D Will is quicker and has a mean crossover, therefore he can get to the hole and make plays for himself...

Boozer is bigger and slower, therefore making it easier for the Rockets to hound him...The way to beat the Rockets is quick cuts to the hole and kick out 3 pointers (if Utah can make any)...

It also takes good defense to beat the Rockets, because they definitely have the offensive stars...and I think our interior defense (Booz, Okur, AK) has been pretty good this series...definitely not fantastic, but it could be much worse, and has been much worse this year...
Jazzsmack | 2:14 a.m. April 28, 2008
Bigjazzfan you got analysis of two teirs pretty well down.

ONe thing though and all championships teams have had this and it is this:

Solid bigmen who play defense sourrounded by smaller player who can score and shoot the ball.

Sixers: moses, jones dawkins ivaroni sourounded by dr J toney cheeks.

Lakers kareem rambis worthy and others surrounded by magic, scott silkes, nixon, etc.

Celtics: parrish mchale an others surrounded by bird ainge johnson.

Detroit: lambier, mahorn, rodmen, salley surrounded by isiah, dumars, johnson

Houston: hakeem, thorpe bullard etc, surrounded by drexler cassel smith maxwell horry

Chicago: cartwirght ,grant, lonlgley vaffrey rodmen etc sourrounded by jordon pippen paxon, kerr, hodges

detroit: wallace and wallca and okur sourrnded by billups prince hamilton etc.

lakers shaq sourrounded by kobe, fisher

spurs duncan, robinson bowen, othersm sournded by parker manu horry, etc

miami shaq surrounded by wade etc.

They key is quality bigmen who play defense surrounded by great scorers and shooters.

Obviously tier one stars can almost guarantee you a championship. but only the most complete teir ones like duncan, jordon or magic.

For more info google for Blueprint for an Champiopnship team.

I don't agree with who is on which teir.

Once again the Jazz prove they have to rely on the officials to win their games instead of talent. If these games didn't have Jazz fans for refs the series would have been over.

Rockets will still win the series. The Jazz just aren't good enough to pull off 4 wins over the Rockets.

Go Rockets!
