Real Salt Lake needs a couple attacking players who can beat defenders and create and score goals. However, the penalities called against them for the first two goals were ridiculous.

Even if they won this wouldn't be news. Notice that RSL "fans" only blog when there is negativity present. Otherwise, nobody seems to care.

I care and I don't even live in Utah. But I'm just a stupid soccer fan. What the heck do I know.

RSL "minor league" | 1:12 p.m. April 27, 2008
RSL has huge defensive problems, one good midfielder, and nothing creative upfront. Having lived in England, RSL would be relegated facing relegation in the champions league div 1. There is nothing beautiful about the way they play soccer. I really hope RSL can find better players and change their attitude. With a beautiful stadium on tap they need to find a rhythm.

The blame needs to be placed squarely on the individuals on the field. They look beat before they even play the game. Find guys that wan to win.
oussan | 1:40 p.m. April 27, 2008
The two PKs were just bad luck for us. Unfortunately, DC earned those PKs, and forced the ref to hand over the game early.

But RSL didn't do itself any favors on the offensive side of the ball, putting only 4 (to DC's 11) shots on goal.

Nobody would be whining about defense if we had any offense.

Paging Dr. Goals...

ummm...you're right, it's hard to want to say anything after suffering at the hands of incompetent referees and a poor performance by the team but don't come in here and disparage the fans, deny our existence or spew your ignorance.
2 pk's = game over | 4:46 p.m. April 27, 2008
Some one can look this up but I doubt any road team has ever won a game after giving up 2 pks. Did it really matter how we played the game. Let a team play every game at home and award them 2 pk's per game and they would go undefeated the entire season. We were tied 0-0 about 30 minutes in. That's about all you can judge the team on. Everything that happened after that was a circus show.

Before you cry the sky is falling consider this. If we beat LA this Sat (at home where we are undefeated)we will be in 2nd place and maybe 1 point out of first.

Also, I thought Olave looked better than Mantilla. He made a few errors but he recovered so quickly they didn't amount to anything.
Enrique | 9:56 p.m. April 27, 2008
I agree that Olave looked solid. I like his presence and control back there. I actually like our back line this year. The problem seems to be that (a) we didn't get much pressure on goal (as opposed to the first 2 games) and (b) we've had too many bad giveaways in bad spots (see Talley, Carey). The service to Deuchar is always in the air for a flick-on, and Findley's first touch is horrible. I'd rather see Movsisyan start with Findley coming on as a sub. Morales hasn't done much, and has too many poor corners/free kicks. With that said, I'm still very optimistic about the season. I was more discouraged about the TFC loss than I was about DC. The Galaxy match could go long way toward the psyche of the team.
RSL Fan | 11:20 p.m. April 27, 2008
All I can say is that 2 PK's is ridiculous. Again, blame Carey Talley. If he didnt pull that guy down from behind the game would be different. Notice that the Western Conference is getting KILLED compared to the East, so I agree we need to look forward for the next 2 games and probably a couple of W's could put us in 2nd Place. We are really missing Espindola and Sturgis. Please trade Talley and Yura! We have a defensive midfielder that is a defensive liability and a forward that cannot finish! Did you hear Dunseth's comment during the game? Also, I am not sure the Deuchar can score a goal with his feet! And please Dave Checkett's if you are listening...GET US A DESIGNATED PLAYER!!! We are getting killed by the other one's in the league, like Blanco, Gallardo, and coming next week...Donovan and Beckham!!!
Anonymous | 12:06 a.m. April 28, 2008
A couple of things need to be said. Morales has had great free kicks/corners. He had an upper 90 at home taht was just barely saved a couple that hit the post. They will fall in. As for dr. g, I'm not sure if he can score without a drivern ball to him. We havent done that so he is useless. Where is our designated player!?!?!? Maybe pick up a couple Derby players since they are going to be relegated. Eddie Johnson isnt getting playtime at fulham and i guess he will be back in the MLS sooner than we think! Agreed, Olave looked very solid.
Waive Talley | 1:12 a.m. April 28, 2008
Exactly RSL Fan! If you watch the game again you'll see that Talley's mistakes once again cost us the game. The sad thing is that he was wearing the captain's armband. How do we bench a guy and then put back in with the captain's armband. He deserves a long ride on the bench.... Why does Kreis not see this- I can only believe that it is nepotism...
Real-ity | 7:37 a.m. April 28, 2008
RSL looks improved from last year and actually seemed to have the better of play in the first 30 mins. 2 pk's are tough to overcome, but those who would argue that the pk's were undeserved should check youtube. Dema clearly handball's a cross in the box. That's a pk anywhere in the world, folks. And Emillio was mugged inside and outside the box on the second pk. Totally legit.
boris | 9:03 a.m. April 28, 2008
Talley should be out....permanently. Olave looked great. The offense falls apart in the final third. Findley's first touch is a major reason we can't finish in the final third; he would be much stronger coming on with his speed as a sub late in the game.
same ole same ole | 9:27 a.m. April 28, 2008
The more things change, the more they stay the same. They looked flat BAD in that game. Dont spin it, dont blame PK's or anything like that.

It's interesting, the ONE major constant for RSL since it's inception is Jason Kries... Captain and now Coach but the the same results. Kries needs to go!!!! If they want to contend then these are games that we need to win.... Especially TFC, I could have lived with the DC game if they got 3 points out of the TFC game..

Look at Chris Klien, that was a mistake!! LA is loving that trade.... And he would be making a difference on this team.
JkR | 10:33 a.m. April 28, 2008
How do you do the game write up with out more on Gallardo's wonder volley? Goals like that are worthy of mention in any league in the world.
Rslfans.com | 1:25 p.m. April 28, 2008
The problem is definitely not in the back four but in the lineup. Is it really a suprise that we get killed on the flanks when RSL plays four central midfielders? We have absolutely no width and teams are starting to realize it. The last two goals came from DCU players making wide runs and being completely unmarked. Beckerman, Kovalenko, and Talley all sit in the middle because they are all holding mids. Formation adjustments to the talent is what is required.

With that said, the central defending tandum was solid. Olave and Borchers together looked great.

JkR, While Gallardo definitely hit the ball with flair and power, he was completely unmarked 3 yards from the goal. Yes he made it look spectacular but it was not a difficult shot. Any offensive player in this league should be expected to finish at the far post when completely unmarked. So just because he smashed the ball into a open net doesn't really get my attention.
The last 30 minutes... | 1:55 p.m. April 28, 2008
The last few games I just had to wade through the first 60-70 minutes and wait for Williams to come on (and Beltran vs DC) to see RSL really play. Not sure why Kreis waits that long to put more talent on to the field... when was the last time we came from behind to win?... have we ever?... why not start out strong and keep going?

I don't think Kreis will ever admit that Talley is a liability on all accounts; and he is in love with his "play 4 central midfielders at all times and make slow wing defenders make runs up field and make crosses" game plan. I hope he will change his mind, but I doubt that he will. Hopefully the players will be able to keep their heads up and play hard despite the tactical blunders. Maybe we'll get lucky.

Our home record will tell if we make the play offs or not. Here's to a good home stand!
Wicked Strike | 2:06 p.m. April 28, 2008
Gallardo's Goal was wicked! It was in the net before Rimando even moved. However, what was Nat doing? Where was the defense to help close so he couldnt get that cross off or the defense in the midfield when DC started that run. I know we were pushed forward but come on. Agree, same old song and dance.
How can I spin this again? | 9:40 p.m. April 28, 2008
Yeah, the one guy got the ball and ran around and kicked it!!! Did you see how sick that was?

RSL has to blah blah blah blah run kick ball so boring.

I...slowl.....y.....sleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeppppp
go away blaze fans | 11:26 a.m. April 29, 2008
ok blaze fans commenting on the RSL blog, your team has not even won. So, go away and watch that snooooozer.

I say give Kries till the end of the year. If we don't make the playoffs, he gets canned. Then we sack Talley, Dema, Joy, and rimando. In fact, Seitz had better be starting soon because I think Rimando has lost his cool.

Real Salt Lake's Robbie Findley, left, heads the ball past D.C. United's Bryan Namoff in the first half of what turned into a 4-1 blowout win for United at RFK Stadium. RSL fell to 1-3-1 with the loss.
