"So, I decided that I would NOT cast my pearls before such swine.

You Arizona Mormons are an embarrassment to the LDS Church. Shame on you all."

I came to the Deseret News board to discuss this subject because the AZ Republic board was so full of hate and vitriol toward the LDS Church. As always, unfortunately. I personally see nothing wrong with the way this discussion has proceeded. Some people made fools of themselves, sure. But that's life, and luckily the rest of us can see those comments for what they are. Compared to the AZcentral board, this one is a summer picnic. I think your judgments and accusations are unwarranted and amount to a hasty generalization.
To Inquiring Mind & Keelie | 5:17 p.m. April 30, 2008
Keelie has every right to be disgusted. I'm disgusted as well. LDS people know better than to engage in bickering in any degree. Sadly, too many of us give in to the temptation anyway.

As a matter of perspective, the early apostles had flaws, too. They quarreled as to who was more important in the Kingdom, for instance, and Peter even denied knowing Christ. But as they learned and were strengthened by the Holy Spirit, God took them above the pettiness and spite of our fallen natures. They were born again in spirit, becoming new creatures. They overcame their weaknesses through Christ and became strong and valiant servants of God, even dying for Him.

You'll find the LDS church isn't so much a sanctuary for Saints as it is a hospital for sinners. None of us are perfect--we all make mistakes, just like the rest of the world. That's why we all need Christ in our lives--to heal us and help us become more like He is instead of less.

May God bless us all with more patience with and charity for each other, imperfect as we are.

I dont know why the mormon church is opening up new places of worship until they first put behind the bad experience they had here in eldorado with the temple and the compound. I think it would be wise to tidy up before moving on to new ventures.

Let's let the AZ Republic board be what it is, OK? We don't need to turn *this* one into it, too.

Ask yourself: Did you really *mean* to say what you said in that way? Do you think it accomplished anything positive?

Just curious.
Capital Expansion | 7:10 p.m. April 30, 2008
Wow new franchises! Big business and bigger news indeed!! This is almost as exciting as the In N Out Burger opening in St. George!
wallyworld | 7:27 p.m. April 30, 2008
I don't which anonymous said this, because there so many. But they said that the more Temples that are built the "less precious" they continue to be, they become "more common", "trivial" and here's the kicker "less sacred"

Well Mr or Ms. anonymous I guess you don't know the true meaning of the Temple and the important work that goes on inside of them. With less Temples the work will slow down because it will be harder for the other LDS people who are not blessed to have a Temple in their State or Country to make the trip to one that does.

I guess you also have'nt heard that Temples will one day dot the earth. But if IT brothers you that much, well I'm sorry you feel that way. Our Brothers and Sisters need to take out their own Endowments and do work on their family files. I guess also President Monson will have to check with you when he feels impressed to have one built.

The Eldorado temple is now vacant and I think it is to soon to bring others online.
AS | 7:52 p.m. April 30, 2008
Well, I don't know how to say this, but announcements such as the new Arizona temples show that God's work and the priesthood will always continue on this earth and that no man can take that away! I am proud of being a member of the LDS Church, it has helped me so much in dealing with my autism and I have made many friends far and wide through the LDS church-sponsored EFY programs that were from states like Utah, Montana, California, New Mexico, Nebraska, Minnesota, Idaho and I made friends with people from Mesa, Arizona and Tucson, Arizona! It shows that the Savior's Love reaches out to everyone and each of us can be like the Savior even if it takes much effort to do so.
Beth | 8:28 p.m. April 30, 2008
AZ is worthy. We gearing up to have more than Utah soon. All the faithful saints are moving to this area since SLC and SOCAL are becoming such crappy areas with all immigration and the gangs and ignorance that brings into a community. I am so glad we don't deal with that and I think our lord recognized that with the temple.
Utah Transplant | 11:48 p.m. April 30, 2008
There has been a few comments about the barcode on the new recommends. The barcode is for security purposes only. It has nothing to do with tracking temple attendance.
Sustaining the Prophet | 12:05 a.m. May 1, 2008
It is sad that people are acting this way. And so soon after sustaining our new Prophet.

As for the Nauvoo Temple, it was NOT built on the small temple plan. It was simply just re-built. The temple district only has 5 or 6 stakes because the other stakes in the area are closer to other temples.

The living prophet announced these 2 new temples after receiving direction from our Savior. We all need to be grateful for our prophet and for continuing revelation.

Well yes I have heard that sir and now they are beginning to pop up like Super Wal-Marts. But of course its gaudiness is an eyesore to the landscape and the riff raff of traffic it brings into the neighborhood is not appreciated. Bigger is not always better but I guess it would be an LDS prideful kind of concept???
Lorean | 12:17 a.m. May 1, 2008
Sweeet--- nice to see AZ mormons are as spiteful and hateful as the Utah variety. I guess it is systemic in the mormon culture!

I think you may be wrong about the barcodes. It is now standard issue for everyone at all times in everyday day activities in tracking members and not exclusive to the temple.
Trans Utah Plant | 1:13 a.m. May 1, 2008
Utah Transplant,

How does a bar code provide security without tracking each person's individual temple attendance? The only way to provide "security" is to identify each individual person with a unique bar code that shows their name (and eventually a digital picture) to the Temple "guards" when you show them your recommend. My name pops up when they run the recommend through the scanner. They record not only my name, but my ward, stake, temple district, and who knows what else.

Big Brother is watching how many times you attend the temple!
wallyworld | 3:11 p.m. May 1, 2008
Troy,

Were is this coming from? I was under the impression that you were a member of the LDS Church and felt that the more Temples that are being built the less sepcial they have become. I'm sorry, Don't take it to personal dude.

I also did not know you thouhgt they were an "eyesore to the landscape" and attracts the "riffraft" like a Wal-mart aka wallyworld, hehehe. But I'll take the LDS "riffraft", good people by the way, any day and a Temple in my backyard too.

glad | 5:02 p.m. May 1, 2008
I am glad the LDS church still uses the best of everything to build their temples. They are called "The House of the Lord". I would hope they would use the best craftsmen and materials available to them. If others think it is too much to worship the Lord by providing the best of the best for His house, I personally hope it never changes.
Convert in Gilbert | 12:24 p.m. May 2, 2008
I am sad to read that so many people are upset about the locations for the new temples. We shouldn't question the church leaders, they have the authority and guidence from our Heavenly Father in making these decisions. I am from Gilbert, so of course I am excited. But I think this temple will really help with the church growth in Queen Creek and other cities South of us. I have faith that the church knows the needs of it's members. This will be such a blessing.
H D Harrison | 11:16 p.m. May 4, 2008
I read some time ago that President Brigham Young propheiced that there will be hundreds of temples dotting the earth. (yes I said hundreds, as in 200 to 500 temples). So for those who wished to have a temple near Peroia or in Tucson, be patient and continue to pray for a temple and in due time the Lord will provide. It will be sooner than you think. There are much work to be done in the temple.
Anon | 1:18 p.m. May 7, 2008
To all those who do not understand why there is a temple going up in Gilbert.

Temple locations are not determined according to geographic location. The location of temples is determined by the amount of Priesthood in a given area and by the demand created by temple attenders from that area. Gilbert is getting a temple in lieu of Glendale or Queen Creek simply because there is more priesthood and greater demand in that area. As church membership continues to grow in Glendale the church will undoubtably decide to build a temple there.
Deerian Cox | 5:01 a.m. May 10, 2008
I pray that we will live up to the blessings the Lord has poured out upon us by having these Temples placed in our midst. I was very humbled by this announcement. I hope I will not offend the Lord by any negative comments and not think myself better than any other person because of my membership in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.
Freethinker at last | 7:51 p.m. May 20, 2008
The church has to spend the money on something else, other than a mall for Pete's sakes. After all it is worth in excess of 80 billion dollars. Yes, a church as it calls itself. I think it's time it was seen for what it really is, a HUGE FINANCIAL CORPORATION! Time to pay taxes boys, your games up.
Surprised | 12:23 a.m. May 26, 2008
I'm shocked at the number of people who sound so bitter about the location of the new temple! You react as if the church just goes around building temples randomly. Have a little faith. Every single temple site in the world is a result of direct revelation to the prophet of God. "Whether by mine own voice, or by the voice of my servants it is the same."

There is a lot of data that is taken into consideration when planning a new temple, including concentration of recommend holding, tithe paying members, availability of land, willingness of city government and zoning committees, etc. Do not second-guess the Lord and his wisdom.

As for wanting a temple closer to you so you don't have to drive as far, please remember how blessed we are here in the Western United States. For decades, faithful members in many countries never received the blessings of the temple at all. Many still have to sell their homes, or other meager belongings to pay for a very long difficult journey to a temple once in their lifetime. For us to complain about having to drive a few extra miles is ridiculous. How the Lord must cringe!
Gabster Girl | 3:37 p.m. Aug. 26, 2008
I am way excited that more temples are being built in Arizona! I currently am living in Idaho, but I joined the Church while attending EAC in Thatcher, AZ. It is absolutely beautiful out there. My first temple I visited was the Mesa, AZ Temple and it was absolutely amazing as well. It was a bit of travel, but I was grateful we had a temple in the same state. There are still so many that don't. We are all truly blessed! In Rexburg we recently got a temple and it is most definitely a blessing to see it each day as a beacon, guiding us on the right path even when the worlds foundation is crumbling. Temples are beautiful and wonderful instruments to each of us in these troubling times! Our Heavenly Father truly loves and blesses us in our times of need.
Jean | 7:02 p.m. Sept. 25, 2008
What possible difference does it make or why the Gila Valley was chosen for a new Temple to be built. You should be ashamed of yourselves for ever murmuring, yes I said murmuring about the Lord's House....I hope and pray that Temples are built all over the world and every day they announce a new one. I am extremely grateful that I won't have a 3 hr drive but I have and will continue to drive that distance and be grateful that is all the further I have to go. Some Saints travel days to attend a Temple. The Saints in the Gila Valley will welcome you and treat you lovingly when the time comes and our Temple is built and you enter into Our Heavenly Father's house.

How can anyone in Arizona complain about a temple not being built in there city? I served in Guatemala in the early 80's. The saints there sold all they possessed to travel to Arizona and enjoy the blessings of the temple. They came home with one or two pairs of garments and they started their lives anew. Whether you live in Yuma, or Paige Arizona please thank God for the blessing of 5 temples in your state!
