*** "Urrutia-Garcia is a naturalized U.S. citizen, according to federal prosecutors." ***
There are some people who say the citizenship process needs to be sped up - immigrant arrives today, give him citizenship tomorrow, let him vote the next day.
As with the case of Urrutia-Garcia, Tony Rezko, and so many others, this story demonstrates precisely the opposite - SLOW IT DOWN. Make people wait 20 years to become citizens. Make them prove their loyalty to the US and their willingness to obey the law.
Once citizenship is granted it is pretty darn hard to revoke. We're stuck with the losers who are born American citizens. We don't have to be stuck with those who came here later...
And where are your ancestors from? Are you one of the losers that was born here. My parents are immigrants that came here after World War II. They had to have a sponsor to provide for them until they could support themselves. In our home we spoke english because, by golly, we were Americans so we were going to speak American. I have no problem with legal immigrants, but I do have problems with criminals, be they from Mexico or the good old US of A. These people are criminals and have no rights as citizens.
Finally we see some action from the government! But let's continue the effort. 20 years in the slammer ought to be a pretty good deterrent from hiring illegals. Going after employers who hire illegals is a great and humane way to keep illegals from crossing our borders. Let's keep it up.
I think we should send all illegals back. First lets us start with those that arrived at Plymouth Rock (I really wish the Native Americans had a better immigration plan, maybe putting up a fence so that those whities couldn't get in)and those that decided to take over Mexico and then call it "their" land. What a bunch of hypocrites!
No one seems to mention that even with all of the foreign labor, our unemployment rates are still at a historic low. So we must need the help. Why not change the laws so that more documented guest workers can enter each year, then go home after a certain period of time? Or, if an employer agrees to sponsor them, they can stay indefinitely.
We need the labor, there is no disputing that. Most of the 3% of those who are currently unemployed are generally not very employable--due to a number of reasons, like mental health issues, disabilities, family situations or just plain lack of common sense.
Another thing that is not often mentioned: most illegals pay into the social security, federal unemployment and state unemployement funds. They literally pay billions into those systems that they will never get back. Those 10 or so million TAXPAYERS are helping to keep social security afloat.
