I'm not a skier, but it seems strange that if there is still that much snow, why are all of the resorts except Snowbird and Snowbasin closing?

The ski resorts close early because it is no longer cost effective. Spring skiing does not bring in the crowds.

Also, many ski resorts' insurance policies expire on certain dates, and its much too expensive to extend the policy.
