This is huge!!! Will the games be in HD? And please no Tom Kirkland calling the games. Thanks KSL.

Finally more soccer on TV! Seriously how do people keep their jobs at KSL? First lets make an all women's station on 820 am, then lets start nightside and fire everyone. What's next on the list...um...hey I know...how about soccer...everyone loves RSL. Unbelievable.
Andy | 9:12 a.m. April 18, 2008
I am not a fan of RSL, but this is great news for the team. I probably will not buy tickets to a game, but now that the option is there to watch the game on t.v. I may tune in to see what all the hype is about.
And please, NO comments on your taxes being waisted on a stadium. YOUR TAXES ARE NOT BEING WAISTED! THERE NOT EVEN BEING USED.

Um, Anonymous 9:01, you do know that last summer Real games were the highest-rated Saturday daytime programming on KSL, right?

Oh wait, you didn't know that?

Never mind - I guess facts are just going to confuse you. Continue with your soccer hate......
sockernut | 10:04 a.m. April 18, 2008
Great, I'll be watching every game. The more soccer grows, the more the voices of its critics are that much more laughable. I can understand the world's irritation with American arrogance when we sarcastically say things like "everyone loves RSL/soccer". Fact is, globally, everyone does love soccer. You just have to open your mind a bit and look somewhere besides your own back yard. And i don't need the rhetoric about how we don't need to be like europe or whoever else. In my opinion, one of the great things about soccer is the international competition and interaction. Why do you think everyone loves the Olympics so much? It's not because everyone is so interested in Curling, Aquatics, and Table Tennis. It goes a lot deeper than that. Imagine if each country had their own NBA with players and teams as good or better than ours, we would have some pretty exciting matchups. Anyway, for those who care to look, there's a pretty great soccer world out there, for those critics who continually voice their remarks with their heads in the sand, hey, at least you keep me laughing.

Hey raining on the parade...

Apparently you don't know how to read ratings.
SATURDAY DAYTIME? | 10:00 a.m. April 18, 2008
Is that funny to anyone else? Who sits home in the summer, on a saturday, and watches ANYTHING? People probably just left their TV's on after Saturday morning cartoons. And yes we (the majority) will continue with our soccer hate because it's so easy to hate a "sport" that can end in a tie. Especially when we are continually force fed. Go away soccer
bobcat | 10:07 a.m. April 18, 2008
This is phenomenal! Way to step up KSL! I just might need to buy a bigger tv now!
Dont hate on 820 | 10:07 a.m. April 18, 2008
820 is my favorite station
Makes sense! | 10:12 a.m. April 18, 2008
Anonymous 9:01, A Radio station dedicated to women...broadcasting a womens sport. It all makes sense now!
Good News | 10:13 a.m. April 18, 2008
I was thinking I would have to pay for MLS tv and watch the games in a 1x1 square on my computer again this year. I wish it wasn't being tape delayed. Hopefully the future games are televised live.

@Andy - Come to a game. They are fun.
@Anonymous - Is KSL the only channel you get?
Ratings.... | 10:15 a.m. April 18, 2008
HIGHEST RATED???? PLEASE PROVIDE FACTS!!!! THAT SEEMS FUNNY TO ME. RSL CAN'T EVEN FILL UP 1/4 OF THE STADIUM, SO WHO ARE THESE PEOPLE WATCHING IT ON TV????
Anonymous | 10:15 a.m. April 18, 2008
Number 1 Saturday daytime...so lets see whats on TV...RSL, infomercial, infomercial, and... another infomercial. Wow thats like saying you're the number 1 company in Santaquin. #1 and barely pulling in a blip in the ratings doesn't mean anything if your competition is a half-hour commercial.
Facts | 10:50 a.m. April 18, 2008
RSL's rating last year: 3.1
NHL on NBC: 2.9
Utah Blaze: 1.7

Now will all of you soccer haters go back to watching paint dry (aka watching baseball)?
RE: Facts | 11:15 a.m. April 18, 2008
You just made your point using HOCKEY AND ARENA FOOTBALL. CONGRATULATIONS!!! You are more popular than HOCKEY!!!!!! You have really hit the big time! What are you gunning for next? The WWF? Or Maybe the LPGA! Both are highly recognized, legitamite, dominate sports that people really care about! I still can't believe that you are using Ice Capades and washed up wannabe's as examples of your popularity. I guess you really do know your place!
Anonymous | 11:16 a.m. April 18, 2008
I don't get what is the big deal. Yes, you have a soccer team, and no, your tax dollars are not going to the stadium, so why all the fuss? No one cares there there is a AA hockey team with a stadium, a AAA baseball team with a stadium, but a pro soccer team gets a stadium and people are in a uproar. And If there are only infomercials on Saturday afternoon t.v., then the game is not taking away a precious t.v. show, so why does everyone who hates soccer care what KSL puts on their station? Honestly, I am from L.A. and a Galaxy fan who happens to go to college here and I am sick of the RSL haters.
bobcat | 11:42 a.m. April 18, 2008
Not only will I be watching every one of these games, I'm also thinking about hosting RSL watch parties for as many as I can. If any of you live in the St. George area and would like to get together to watch these games, let me know.

I'm so glad these games are going to be televised. Having moved from Logan to St. George last year it is much harder for me to make it to the games. I was wondering how I would get my RSL fix this year. Thanks KSL!!!

To all the soccer haters out there, keep on hating... it just drives my passion for the sport that much more! I welcome your negative comments. Not only is soccer going to be successful in America, but it's going to be successful in Utah as well. There are tens of thousands in Utah that realize this, and millions throughout the nation. It appears that KSL realizes this too. They are capitalizing on a great sport that has a dedicated and passionate following. America is on it's way to becomming a great soccer nation!
RSL Fan | 11:45 a.m. April 18, 2008
This is great news!! I have been dying to watch RSL soccer games on TV! I hope they can keep getting positive results!
Ignorance | 12:05 p.m. April 18, 2008
I am so sick of these so called "soccer haters" reading articles about the sport they claim to hate. Why are you even reading the article???? Every single thing that i have heard these "soccer haters" say is due to ignorance. How many of these people have been to an RSL game or for that matter a professional soccer game anywhere in the world? How many of them know what "stoppage time" is? or what a goal kick means?
i am a huge Jazz, Raiders, and Red Sox fan and i love to watch them frequently and i have attended their games and i promise you that 1 goal is more intense than 5 home runs, 20 3-pointers, and 3- touchdowns. Sure we dont fill up a 40,000 football stadium, when have we claimed too? But the league does average around 16,000 which is around what the NBA gets. There are people who love this sport so get over it!!
gorsl | 12:30 p.m. April 18, 2008
I am excited for the announcement. I will be watching the games that I can and I will be attending a few games as well. Soccer is a great sport and I am excited to have it in Utah!
realist | 12:42 p.m. April 18, 2008
I understand there are huge soccer fans in Utah, but lets be realistic, soccer will never be taken seriously in the U.S. So my question is, where are the fans? Not even David Beckam can save the sport. Wow, they might sell out ONE game a year beacuse of him...try to build a fan base, not just an attendance record for one game. I think it's funny RSL attendance is slowly declining. It won't be long before there is an average attendance of 7,000-10,000 per game. Face it RSL won't be here for long.
Cool | 12:51 p.m. April 18, 2008
It will be nice to be able to watch them on local tv. Go RSL.
Soccer Hater | 2:35 p.m. April 18, 2008
I hate soccer. I'm a one-trick pony and think that everyone should only watch Jazz basketball. It's only acceptable to enjoy 1 sport. And if you don't agree with me, then I'm going to whine about it constantly. I don't like Asparagus also. So I think that anyone who does like asparagus isn't as smart or as cool as me.

If I sound silly/dumb/idiotic then I think I made my point in trying to fit in with a typical soccer hater who wastes their time blogging about something they hate.
Anonymous | 2:42 p.m. April 18, 2008
I love soccer too, but there is no way that one goal is MORE exciting than 5 home runs, 20 three pointers, or 3-touchdowns. That is stretching it a little bit. You hardly ever see 20 three pointers or 5 home runs in a game.
Zopilotes son maricones | 3:48 p.m. April 18, 2008
I wonder what the ratings of the Mexican League games on the Spanish stations are?

Pretty good, I'd have to imagine. Thank you, Chris Cannon.

RSL may not be very popular, but thanks to Orrin Hatch and Chris Cannon, there are several hundred thousand soccer fans living in Utah now.
RSLfaninKC | 3:58 p.m. April 18, 2008
Thank you KSL! Even though I am in Kansas City now and will be watching on Direct Kick, it is exciting to have RSL on KSL!
bobcat | 4:37 p.m. April 18, 2008
Anonymous 2:42, it is more exciting. MUCH more exciting. I would rather go to a 1-0 soccer game, than a 120-119 basketball game.
Sweet | 7:23 p.m. April 18, 2008
I will be watching everyone of these broadcasts except the Toronto game tomorrow because I don't live in Utah yet, and the LA game because I will be there in person.

Thank You RSL and KSL.
Soccer rules | 9:25 p.m. April 18, 2008
I've been following RSL since the beginning. These soccer haters make me laugh. They say they hate soccer so much and yet they read soccer articles. They're obviously intimated and hopeless as if what they say will make any diference. They only show how ignorant and desperate they are. I remember when I first read the comments a couple years back the haters outnumbered the soccer fans but it's amazing how it's turned around. Only a few haters here and soon they'll have nothing else to talk about, although they still make me laugh so don't go away haters, you still make us laugh. Soccer is not going away, sorry haters.
Great News! | 11:43 p.m. April 18, 2008
I can't get enough of RSL soccer! Watching the games on my computer where the picture quality is so bad that you can barely tell where the ball is just wasn't cutting it! I'm excited that I'll be able to see almost all the games this year..the away games on KSL and the home games in person. I can't wait for the new stadium, and I think we'll be able to see a few extra games there this year as I think we'll be a playoff team. Kreis has these guys going in the right direction! GO RSL!!!!
Andrew | 12:44 a.m. April 19, 2008
RSL average attendance last year - 16,000
Jazz average attendance last year - 19,000

That looks very good to me, especially since the Jazz were having one of their best season ever while RSL were at the bottom of the league. Soccer is here to stay folks.
16,000 in attendance at games? | 12:46 a.m. April 19, 2008
If that's true, about 3/4 of those people come dressed as empty seats. There is no way MLS is pulling those kinds of numbers.
Attention | 8:09 a.m. April 19, 2008
I don't mind all the negative comments. The media wants attention and it doesn't matter if it's negative or positive. A blog is a number that goes in favor of real salt lake whether it's positive or negative. The more contention and attention we get, the better the chances that we'll get more coverage. Bring it on.
