What is the deal with Jason Kidd? Why is he even in the mix with Deron and Chris? Drop Kidd...he's overrated.

Amen to all Jason Kidd is overrated comments! He shouldnt be playing on the olympic team. Williams, Paul, and Billups are much better then Kidd!

Kidd is overrated, but he is a better fit for Team USA than Chauncey Billups, who should be dropped. Billups was picked because of his outside shooting and clutch shooting. However, he shot poorly last summer, and in any clutch situation, the ball will go to Bryant, Melo, James or Wade before it ever goes to Billups. If you watched last summer, Kidd still creates passing angles better than ANY point guard in the league because he can do it even without deep dribble penetration. The guards should be Paul, Williams and Kidd. And USA doesn't want to alienate Williams because Paul will probably be injured for at least one of the next two Olympics.

Good luck to both Jazz players. I just wish all of this summer ball would cease. Athletes should not and can not compete 24/7 for twelve months a year, year in and year out without paying the price. Bodies are made up of soft tissue not steel. My belief is that our pro-athletes are good enough top to bottom to compete with the present world teams without using players from playoff teams. Our top college stars and best players from non-playoff teams seems to me to be the best way to go, and not risk burn-out and injury potenial. In other words it's too much of a good thing.

You say Boozer led Duke to a pair of sweet 16 appearances. More importantly, he led them to a national championship in 2001. After Boozer broke his foot in a late season game against Maryland, Coach K revamped the way the team played (opting for more speed), started Duhon (and sat another starter), and didn't lose another game that season, including at evil Carolina a week after Boozer broke the foot.

You are right on. Kidd needs to be on the team. He is still an amazing passer and can have a huge impact without ever taking a shot. I'm sure LeBron, Kobe, etc want J-Kidd out there. However, Billips is no longer needed. D-Will and CP3 are too good to leave them off. The only potential argument Billips has over those two right now is that he's more experienced. This team will already have some experienced players such as Kobe and Kidd, and the young guys have all had quite a bit of experience as well. Kidd, Williams, and Paul will be the three ... then again, if they cut D-Will (you know they won't cut Paul)look out next year. He will be motivated and scary to watch if you're not a Jazz fan.

TeamUSA struggled in Japan because they couldn't defend the pick and roll. The Jazz have struggled all year because they tend to think defense only when forced to.

Kidd, even at his age, is more serious about defense than the other point guard candidates with TeamUSA. That, plus his playmaking make him the right starting point guard.

And I know CP3 is an MVP candidate and all, but last summer Williams played extremely well with Kobe, LeBron and Melo. CP3 doesn't have that experience or success to the degree Deron does with TeamUSA.

Plus Williams has more size. That REALLY matters in FIBA play, because if TeamUSA switches on the pick and roll, those tall, outside-shooting Europeans will shoot over Chris Paul like he isn't even there. Deron Williams will at least get a hand in their face.

Billups is the guard I would drop. They don't need his alleged outside clutch shooting; they have Kobe Bryant now, and this season LeBron grew as a clutch shooter as well.

the PG in international matchups needs to be a pass-first point guard. Period. The fast pace games are met best with a great distributer. Allen Iverson did us worng last time around. Williams & Paul in. Billips out. and Kidd out because he's old and plays too much on the inside.
Freak, I should be coaching.

you should be coaching. They need to worry about chemistry rather than raw talent this time around. AI is the perfect example of talent... and has little succes to show. Good call on the pass-first point guard. The team needs self-less players willing to play team ball and team-d. Good luck to who ever makes the team. Although Deron deserves to be on the team, I kinda hope he doesn't make it. That just gives him more reason to work and improve. Look out for next year if he does get snubbed.

Kidd is on the decline, and a horrible outside shooter, and in the international game, shooting is at a premium, especially with the shorter 3 point line.

You are all wrong. In International play shooting the ball is a must.

Dropping kidd is a no brainer.
PG gets ball to shooters | 8:21 p.m. April 16, 2008
That's exactly why they need Kidd, to get the ball to all the shooters they will have on the team, like Kobe, Redd, Melo, etc
Stockton and Malone | 11:45 p.m. April 16, 2008
Stockton and Malone are still and will be the best duo ever. Boozer needs to learn to throw aroud his elbows
