Of course this merger delights them - they fly on the taxpayers' dime so it doesn't matter to them that fares are going to go up another 20% because of this merger (on top of the fare increases due to fuel costs).

Next time Becker's up for reelection he will take credit for this merger (probably finding a way to turn the lack of jobs lost into "jobs created"). And he will be happy. In the meantime, nobody will be able to afford to fly anywhere.
