Stereotypes can indeed be annoying, but it can be funny too. While on an LDS mission to Ireland I was regularly asked for directions in supermarkets. Being of Irish/English/Scottish descent and wearing a dark suit with a name tag apparently marked me as an assistant manager. People got pretty embarrassed when I opened my mouth to give my best guess as to where the soup was and they realized I was an American.
