Comments about ‘ESPN's Vitale taking buffoonery to Basketball Hall of Fame’

Vitale is a great announcer. He is enthusiastic, he understands the game, and he loves the players. What do you want? Don't tell me you're a Billy Packer fan. Booo!

Vitale's a great ambassador of the game. Like him or not, he's done a lot to help the college game.

You don't know why more people watched the game last year? It's the matchup. No one knows before the game if it's going to be close or not. This year we had Memphis vs Kansas -- besides Derrick Rose, not a lot of marquee names. Last year you had the defending national champions Florida Gators (w/ a lot of well-known players like Noah, Brewer and Horford) and Ohio State (Greg Oden and Mike Conley). You're really surprised more people watched last year's game?

Lastly, Strawberry had his troubles but he brought a championship to New York. If you don't know how New Yorkers feel about Strawberry, you obviously haven't spent much time there.

Scott has it right; as usual. Vitale might know more about hoops than Naismith, but that doesn't mean he is palatable in any dose stronger than a thirty second sound bite. Billy Packer has the same problem. Just because you understand something and love it doesn't mean acting like a mule is the best way to share it. Encyclopedias are full of useful information, but who can read one cover to cover? Presentation is EVERYTHING! Honestly, does Vitale really think these freshman enjoy him calling them "Diaper Dandies"? The only thing that needs a Diaper is Vitale's constantly open mouth!
And just for gee whiz, Vitale only loves the kids who wear Duke or Carolina blue.

It seems like Mr. Pierce has a personal beef with Mr. Vitale. True?

I know Dick Vitale. He's a nationally-recognized and respected college basketball authority, and a member of the Hall of Fame. Who is this Scott Pierce guy? I never heard of him before.

no one is more biased than Packer. Vitale would never say something along the lines of "it would have been a shame if belmont had knocked duke out of the first round." I dislike Packer very very much. Vitale can get annoying in large doses, but he does know his stuff. I'll take him over Packer any day.
