Majority is Wrong | 10:27 p.m. April 9, 2008
The majority of Utans need their heads examined and they need to read the Constitution.

I was just looking at cnn and cbs websites. They're saying stuff about forced sex and wedding beds in the temple...
This is getting toxic, even for everything in the name of religion Utah.
Fortunately, this is still a rescue mission. What we need to do now is learn from this. Especially here.

While it really doesn't matter what Utah citizens think as much as legality is key.

At first the only reporting I heard was that they didn't know who this 16(?) year old girl was etc. I figured by this that it is not enough evidence to raid a place.

I could call myself and make a claim right?

HOWEVER, I did just hear a more detailed report stating that the girl made the call from another persons cell phone from within the compound.

This to me leaves MUCH more room for it being legal. I'm sure the court will still decide, but I believe it a legal action because of this.

I understand that some argue just to barge in because of the cause and they don't like legal process. People do need rights though.

Anyway my point is that as much as I'm usually the person stating it was done unjustly(cause I think this happens more often nowadays)..me being the one fighting that so many are improper, I feel this was very proper.

Day prior to becoming THE SENATE SPEAKER or get the job as Speaker, Hon. U.S. Senator Reed (Democrat-Nevada) made a speech on TV, that he would ask for a task force to STOP (desmantle) the Polygamist Modern Movement, including the one in Eldoraro, TX!?

We have people on these blogs that are saying LDS & FLDS believe the same garbage. However, they claim the LDS church hides the practice of plural marriage from members of the LDS church. I am devastated to learn this. I joined over a year ago, but think I have had it with this whole stupid polygamy thing! Me and my family will never practice plural marriage. It is not of God as far as we are all concerned.

The Constitution of the United States does not give anyone the right to abuse their sons or daughters. My rights as a parent stop at the point of abuse. Why is this so hard to understand?

It had to happen sooner or later. I'm pleased that the Texas authorities had the (blank) to do something about this virtual imprisonment of children, with old men impregnating girls 12 years of age and up. Any group, whether hiding under the banner of God or not, has the right to determine the future of a girl, making her a mother while still being a child. The fear of burning in hell and being shut off from any knowledge of the outside robs them of any choices. Jeff's and his perverted brethren, have convinced their flock that blacks are animals, that space flight is a hoax, and that they will lose their salvation and their families if they leave. I lived in St. George, and it was an open secret that young girls were forced into sex, forced into marrying whoever they were told to, and that they could be pulled from one family and placed in another as if they were "objects". Yet Utah authorities were as gutless then and they are now. There is a very cold place in hell for Utah government and legal officials.

Utah may have looked the other way in the past but that has changed. Why do you think the FLDS moved to Texas, to get away from Utah government. There leader has been convicted of crimes and he is now headed to Arizona for more criminal trials.
cooler heads | 12:06 a.m. April 10, 2008
First, any government action against a religious group on such a massive scale should make LDS people shudder in memory. What the government does to one, it learns to do to anyone.

Second, even with probable cause that a crime was committed on a girl, how does that translate into taking over 400 children from their parents? It is an overreach of constitutionally suspect perportions.

Let me try to put this into perspective: if a neighborhood girl says that a man in the neighborhood molested her, should the police come in and take all the kids from the neighborhood to protect them? Or should the police arrest the law-breakers to protect the kids?

Normally we do the latter. On what compelling state interest did Texas do the former?

I say this only to keep the rule of law meaningful and supreme. Otherwise the same government side-stepping of the law that appears good and beneficial in this case can be turned against us all when it isn't right or beneficial. Government checked by the rule of law is first priority.
Majority of Utahns? | 12:31 a.m. April 10, 2008
After reading the different DN message boards on this topic I would of reached a different conclusion. But then this is a messageboard and I really don't know who is posting.
Honest Question | 12:40 a.m. April 10, 2008
Do LDS believe in polygamy or not? Is it something wonderful for a woman to live her whole life faithful only to find out that the next life involves sharing her one true love with other women? I have never understood if LDS really believe it or not and if it's something that bothers them. I wish that someone would talk about the LDS beliefs in polygamy from the high up places. It would make more sense to me if it was talked about.

Greg W. | 12:45 a.m. April 10, 2008
Horrified, are you saying all 416 girls were abused and thus the government was right in yanking them out of their family?

Are you from Germany?

It was an overreaction. Find out who the perps are and bring them to justice. The government does not have a right to seize all people and property on a fishing expedition.

Now that the 16 year old is presumably out, why doesn't she tell the authorities who she is. she is safe now. Something doesn't add up.
Outsider | 1:02 a.m. April 10, 2008
I'm sorry that it got to this point. Notions of privacy, religion, and "family values" taking precedence over the law have led to this disgrace. I think it is a shameful thing.
Bi-State | 1:15 a.m. April 10, 2008
I lived in Utah 13 years and now in Texas for 10. No matter what state you live in, children must be protected. No one has the right to abuse another human being, moreover a child. It is illegal in Texas for anyone to marry under the age of 16. The seizure of the children at the FLDS compound was warranted and justified. Thank you Texas for having the guts to take this group on! As a member of the LDS church, I would appreciate the media and bloggers emphasizing the "F" when it comes to this group--they are NOT members of the LDS church AND members of the LDS church do NOT practice polygamy and do NOT share in the practices of the "F"LDS group. Let there be no mistake about this fact.
Underaged children | 6:17 a.m. April 10, 2008
Let's FIRST protect the children...

If there is a need to enter their temple, do it respectfully!! You would give the same respect to any religious building. (Catholic, Protestant,Muslim etc..)

IF underaged girls are being married off to ANY aged men, THIS MUST STOP!

Sometimes drastic measures must be taken, because drastic situations are happening!!!

I know of a case, in the state where I live, that a 31 year old married man was involved sexually with a 15 year old girl. NO one ever brought charges!! NOT her mother, no one!!! This is equally wrong!!!

WAKE UP WORLD AND PROTECT OUR CHILDREN!!!

Jack | 10:51 a.m. April 10, 2008
At the risk of being accused of advocating child abuse, I agree with "cooler heads."

This is a difficult subject when you look at the big picture. The very same tactics used against the FLDS can be used against any religion.

And, you know, that indoctrinating children into religious dogma isn't the exclusive practice of FLDS. All religions do this to a greater or lesser extent.

But how do you protect children from abuse and protect freedom of religion? I believe we can find a way to do this preventively so that it won't be necessary to raid the sacred grounds of the various religions practiced in the United States.

It may require that discreet monitoring of religious activities take place. But, by the way, that monitoring would apply to non-FLDS religions as well.
