I'm a math teacher in the Granite School District. I've been there 11 years.
JJ Crest (April 23) stated that teachers just get insurance 100%. Well, I pay $134/mo for medical, $43/mo for dental, and have no vision insurance. This is for myself, my wife, and my two children. In addition to this, we have a $1000/person and $2500/family "out of pocket deductable." What this means is I paid over $3700 (out of pocket) for my "They just get it. Full 100%" insurance. I DON'T KNOW ABOUT YOU, BUT $3700 IS A LOT OF MONEY!!!

I can't tell you how disappointed I am in the public schools in the SLC valley. Class sizes are so high that my children get lost in the crowd. There is no money for a PE teacher, art or music teacher,or a FT nurse even though there are 600 plus students in the school; so what is taught at the elementary level is bare basics. How is this being efficient with money? Sounds like being cheap to me. What happened to a well rounded education? I am baffled at why there are so many children that need to be educated, but the residents are not willing to pay for higher taxes for their offspring to get educated.
