This is quite a heated topic in WVC. As a local resident & parent, I think it is ridiculous that this issue is still moving forward with so much public outrage. It's time to get rid of some local government officials--or let them correct their mistake and move the project to another location (away from ours schools)!

I'n not sure why this is a problem. Why is it bad to have a elderly homeless selter near schools? Are people afraid that an elderly person is going to be a child preditor?

What I find ridiculous is most of the public outrage comes from residents far removed from the area of the planned project.

I welcome the project, it's long overdue and I only wish all communities would create these types of projects everywhere in the country.

I live rather close to the location of this project and feel that most people complaining about it have nothing better to do but complain about anything.

What most people don't understand about this issue is that the West Valley City Council did not specifically approve this project. The zoning for this type of project was approved with the understanding that this would be a senior living community, ie a rest home, senior living community, or assisted living facility. After the zoning was approved, Salt Lake County came in with the proposed community for chronically homeless seniors... and the City Council's hands were tied. This is a great example of a developer finding a loophole and taking advantage of it. Not only is it unethical to deny a certain type of development in an approved in a certain zone, but it is illegal. For those who think the West Valley City Council is at fault, I urge you to study the issue and perhaps even become involved in the process. Perhaps even attend a City Council meeting before you point fingers. I applaud the West Valley City Council for studying the issue, doing everything in their power to make the best of it, and preventing it from happening in the future.
