good mom

and we trust the DCFS' definition of neglect?!
so, i don't immunize my child for fear of autism and i'm neglectful.

CDC

I didn't read the full article, but skimming the first paragraph reveals that this is based on the Center for Disease Control's research....

Somewhat misleading headline as neglect is the main problem--a form of abuse, but still....

Agree

I agree with good mom. If we allow government to define abuse and neglect then we all came from families that were abusive and neglectful and we are passing that along to our children. According to DCFS I was abused by our schools as I was growing up.

Hmmm

Amazing what statistics show when there is motive behind them. Numbers can be found to support any cause we want.

To: good mom

Maybe you aren't as "good mom" as you claim to be. Did you even read the article?

"The chief contributing factor is domestic violence. However, maternal drug use was a contributing factor nationally and locally in the child neglect cases. About 18 percent of those cases in Utah were neglect due to alcohol use, including fetal alcohol syndrome and neglect due to methamphetamine abuse."

Most the article talked about drug abuses and alcohol abuses. Some of which are pre-birth. Being that the word "immunize" isn't anywhere IN the article. Good parents research and learn to better the lives of their family.

I'm not really trying to attack your parenting skills, I obviously don't even know you. But claiming yourself as "good mom" and attacking the article for something false...

Maybe you should have read it first. I'll admit that everyone may have their own definition of abuse and that is seen a lot. But organizations formed against abuse primarily are trying to do good and prevent what a large number of people do.

Society is declining and more people badly parent. Negative presumptions don't lead to fixing anything. Building and working together do. At least they are trying to help.

BTW

Autism isn't caused by immunization; that is also another persons OPINION. However, about 90% of cases can be linked to genetics. More research=accurate reasoning.

RE: good mom

Immunize your kids. Seriously. We have vaccines to prevent all of these childhood diseases, and because "good moms" don't have their kids receive them, they are making a comeback. Whooping cough, for example. The effects of the diseases these shots are preventing are WAY more of a threat to your kids than the shot itself. You don't sound mature enough to raise a kitten.
