A just punishment... | 2:52 p.m. April 1, 2008
would be forcing Mr. Southwick to pay back his victims at a dollar an hour for every dollar he stole from them.

Good thing he didn't steal a candybar, he'd be in jail for THAT
Oh Money, Oh Money... | 11:00 p.m. April 1, 2008
thy praises I sing...thou art my savior, my lord, and my king. Tis for thee that I steal, for thee that I pray, and for thee I work on the sabbath day.

There is nothing worse than a religious swindler. If the returns seem to be too good to be true, it probably isn;t, Folks, beware of the sweet talker with big ideas using the church to gain your confidence...you will loose every time.

$140,000,000

How do you place a "just" value on the worth of a life time of saving, sacrificing, budgeting and generally doing without or with less in order to have a more promising future, only to have it taken away, never to be fully or even mostly recovered. Stolen, if you will, by the deceitful words and beguiling personality of a good looking, articulate, well educated and friendly "Fellow citizen with the Saints" who you trusted to help you manage your retirement funds?

He's taught dozens of eager, young, equally greedy associates his evil art of scamming over the past forty years as well. Any punishment will seem to merciful.

$1.00/hr.???
Assuming Val could generate honest money to pay victims back at the rate of $500/hr. he would still be repaying only a million dollars a year and the repayment would take him 140 years to accomplish. The immensity of his crime is appalling by any measure.

Ms Emma Marroguin said he'll go to hell. I'm guessing he feels like he's in hell right now.

If there is any justice to be meted out in this mortal life to Brother Southwick (age 62), it better be sooner than later.

The poor Deseret News comment board censor must have died from exhaustion after this article.
