But how about they try something a little more rock-oriented?
Billy Joel?
Elton John? (although he's gay, so that might be a problem at BYU)
U2?
Frankly, I'd be happy with anything that's not country or pure pop. But I guess you have to please the masses.
I'd prefer to have my kids remember picnics with the family, watching a parade, sitting on a blanket after a scorching hot day on the cool grass watching the fireworks at a local park. Soaking in all the smells, sounds, and feelings of a simple summer evening. Apparently "simpler is better" is a lost concept with the majority of people nowadays.
Sigh.
Is this your only source of income? I'd say get a real job, a regular one like everyone else that your wife and kids can be proud of.
What you're doing is not a "job".
Why are you even reading about the show if you're not interested in the headline acts?
sigh
Glen Beck is NOT an entertainer, and if HE is considered patriotic, God help us all. A true "patriot" is not a fire-stormer, right-wing, neo-con war supporter.
For those of you adults upset about this choice, I say, too bad! As far as I'm concerned, fireworks and shows like this are for kids!
I for one couldn't be happier for my daughter to be able to see a wholesome show and concert.
$35/$45/$55/$65 for the various stadium seats, and $120 down on the field.
I'm with most of you--a 25-ticket limit is like blood in the water for scalpers. It is definitely the chicken's way out for SOF, because the scalpers will now assume the risk of empty seats, and you're less likely to bury your ticketing website. But with Miley and BMG, there's no need. You could sell out no matter how low the limit. With a lower limit you make it a lot more difficult for the scalpers, but your website takes a beating with the increased number of transactions.
Scalping tickets is just wrong. Why should people have to pay twice as much to see a show? And normally the reason people turn to a scalper is because the event is sold out and it's the only way to go... if the scalpers didn't exist that would free up ALOT of tickets at the original price for those customers. What scalpers are doing is taking advantage of people, NOT helping them.
I wish scalpers would vanish and thus free up an extra amount of tickets at their normal price. And I wish more performers were like Garth Brooks and go to efforts to kill business for the scalpers (see my previous replies about this).
For those of you who may be too young to remember that, the Cabbage Patch Kids were the toy to have one Christmas. It all started when word got out of them selling out in some parts of the country. All of a sudden people in other parts of the country started buying them up and even hoarding them to resell just before Christmas. That created an even bigger shortage. Before you knew it, parents were lined up by the hundreds just to buy their kid a doll that they all of a sudden had to have.
While Miley Cyrus may be an excellent entertainer, the news coverage of her concerts selling out so fast (partly due to scalpers) only feeds the frenzy for her next concert and that one sells out even faster. So in a way, you could say that she owes part of her success to scalpers.
You know what would kill business for scalpers even faster? If people refused to pay anything above face value for tickets. As long as people, and in this case parents, are willing to pay hundreds or even thousands of dollars for tickets which originally sold for a fraction of that price, scalpers will not only exist, but flourish.
The site said that individuals would be limited to 25 tickets. However, about 30 minutes into the wait, a message came up on the screen with a link to a sight for a charity auction for tickets. A couple had purchased 1000 tickets for the auction - so much for a 25 ticket limit.
Once again, I'll go home to my daughter and explain that I did everything that I possibly could to get her tickets to see Myley Cyrus... and once again I'll get to see the disappointment in her eyes that she won't be able to see her pop-star idol. We'll both get over it. Have fun charity ticket holders.
Here's the good neww: you can get tickets on eBay already!! And such a deal! The field seats that sold for $120 are available for the bargain price of avg $1,000/seat!! Thats almost a 10X markup. Above the concourse seats that sold for $45 are now $300+/seat.
The Freedom Festival wonks that made the decision to offer a 25-ticket limit played right into the hands of the scalpers. It's like handing them $880/ticket in cash! That's bad enough, but now the tickets are priced far out of the reach of most (sane) Utah families. I personally hope they get stuck with their tickets and the SOF sits noticeably empty for the performance. The scalpers can choke on their tickets for all I care.
Still; don't complain and try to get sympathy when you simply didn't plan for it ahead of time. This is mostly in reaction of the drama queen talking about the "disappointment" in her daughter's eyes.
I do agree that it was dumb of them to allow 25 tickets per person. I bought what I needed and left.
Also; if youre upset about tickets being sold above face value; talk to who ever it is in Utah senate that could get the regulations passed. There are plenty of states that regulate ticket sales.
