I'll bet David feels a lot better now.

I like Brooke or the Rocker to win it, but man that girl from Ireland has some pipes! She may be the big surprise. Oh, and ....I care.

Hey Anonymous, Donny has made a name for himself through his singing and acting that have impacted many fans over the years. You, on the other hand, have accomplished nothing. Therefore, we don't care that you don't care.

Were I a gambler, my money would still be on David Archuleta! No one on that program can sing as well as he can! Now, if he'll just pick good, popular songs that the viewers recognize and like, he will definitely be the one to beat.

NO MORE do-gooder songs, PLEASE, David! Fun or beautiful, recognizable songs only! Now, is not the time or place for that type of song!

Win the competition first! Later, you can put one or two of those songs on your CDs, you can make a fortune and give lots of money to charity, take part in Live Aid and Farm Aid. Also, a good example is the best sermon, and you have that in spades, David!

All the best to you! There are a WHOLE LOT of us out here pulling for you!!

Geez angry, mad much? Nothing like a little over the top criticism. I take it from your comment that you have achieved miracles in your life?
Steve | 3:30 p.m. March 31, 2008
It isn't just girls screaming David's name and getting all excited about him... boys/guys are too for all the same reasons.

What have Donny and Marie done to "uplift" everyone? They have been a curiosity, particularly Marie, but uplifting?
Reader | 4:08 p.m. March 31, 2008
My comment wasn't about me. And yes, I am among the those who have accomplished basically nothing in this life.

I don't know just a thought!

Check out the number of hits and comments on the YouTube sites featuring David Archuleta's performances, or the comments on iTunes, compared with those of the other contestants.
As the years pass | 6:08 p.m. March 31, 2008
As the years pass, I like and admire Donny and Marie more and more. They have reinvented themselves time and again, being more or less successful each time (their talk show won an Emmy, even though it was cancelled), and they move forward in life despite, in some cases, personal setbacks. Good for them!

Idol Top 4, in no order: David's Cook and Archuleta, Brooke White, Irish girl.

Interesting. I like music or I don't like it. I don't care where you are from or why even inquire about your beliefs.

Donny and Marie were too formula for my tastes. It must be tough fitting in a mold formed by others.

I didn't realize that making a name for yourself in the public eye means you've accomplished something in life. Does this mean the majority of people have never accomplished anything?

I guess only those who are in the entertainment field = accomplishment.

Oh my dear soul, I'm eternally damned!

I would imagine that sustaining a career for 50 years (as the Osmond family have) warrants giving advice to those just entering the harsh reality of show biz! I'd say they do have just a tad bit of experience going for them!
hmmm | 7:55 p.m. March 31, 2008
Since many of the folks here are members of the LDS Church, here are my thought on the Osmonds. I apologize to those who might not share these beliefs.

35 years ago my wife became interested in the LDS church because of The Osmonds and was bapized at age 14. Her interest in the Osmonds faded quickly, but she has been an activly serving member of the church since that time. I would say she has had a positive impact on many others as an extension of The Osmond's influence. Though she is somewhat embarassed by the story today, there are at lease 4 of us in this house and a long line of others who have been blessed by this family.
Re: Hmmm | 9:30 p.m. March 31, 2008
Great story. Wasn't Donny told he did not have to serve a mission... one of the reasons is that he was already on one? Sounds like that is true with your wife. Congrats to you, your family, and the lives you have blessed. Thanks for sharing that. Really enjoyed it.

37 years ago I was introduced to LDS beliefs. 33 years ago (Jan 4) I was baptized. I have been active since then. My older son was just ordained a Priest yesterday and is seriously thinking of serving a mission. I know that I will have numerous descendants raised in the gospel who will be strong and active and will spread the gospel. How did all of this come about? Because of the Osmonds. They have been the instrument in introducing thousands to the truth. And because of the "resurgance" in their careers, I'm sure many thousands more will follow suit. They have made names for themselves in the entertainment business, yes. But more importantly, they have been missionaries for the last 50 years and I'm sure have many more years of the same ahead of them. And now, David Archuleta seems to be following suit. Funny how the Lord works, isn't it?

I do not believe this how the lord works, it is more like how it fool people like you.

By the way how is Marie's son doing in rehab?

I worked with an Osmond business when D&M were young adults, have pictures of Marie holding our oldest daughter in our family photo (I look like a polygamist) escorted Donny when rude teen girls hogged him.
All of the Osmonds I ever met were constantly humble and courteous with fans, with everyone, no matter their "importance."

They've done a lot of good in the world, for Utah, for their faith, and for America.
And David will, too.
You silly goose | 10:20 p.m. March 31, 2008
Your key phrase: "I do not believe." Come along, with happier people who do.

Funny how the Lord works, letting people have freedom to choose, make mistakes, try again, learn and grow and teach others. His children can even choose to reject Him.

BTW, Was Christ a loser because He got nailed to a cross?

One Bad Apple Don't [Represent] The Whole Bunch, Goose. The O. Family has a remarkably low percentage of family in ___________ (fill in the blank, whatever kind of trouble) compared to most American families of that size.

And they don't publish their doubts and discouragements. Doesn't help anyone.

Steve's right that David Archuleta's fans are not just tweens. I saw a survey on this exact thing.

Fan respondents in this particular poll were 70% women, 30% men. The breakdown--Females: 29% were 17-and-under, 16% were 18-30, and 25% were 30+. Of males: 1% were 17-and-under, 11% were 18-30, 17% were 30+.

I'm way past 30 myself and am a totally besotted, rabid fan of this cute, sweet kid with the killer voice! My teenaged son thinks I've lost my marbles, but David has me listening to popular music for the first time in more than 20 years!

After listening to David's stuff on YouTube (especially the Christmas songs, "Angels", "I'll Be", "A Thousand Miles", even "Happy Birthday!"), I decided that if there was beauty like that in the world and I wasn't listening, I was foolish and missing out.

I have really been enjoying myself! It's like a gift! I've found lots of popular songs to love. For years I had my son's music all around me, but it was hard rock which verged on painful to me.:o(

Hope he sings "I Will Always Love You" tomorrow night. He could bring the house down with it!! Good luck, David!

First I have to say it is amazing the hateful and rude comments that are made regarding the LDS church on a church run newspaper. The LDS church has a tax paying business side to it and the Deseret News comes under that. Having said that, I am four years older than Donny and when he this little kid singing about puppy love, I just couldn't buy it, so I was an anti-Osmond, but I really like them as adults, even though they are closer to my age, they look so much better than I do. I would so love to see Donny do Dancing, and had hoped he was going to do it this time. I would also rather have Donny give David A advice than the other two musician that is his age that started out at the same time, namely Michael Jackson. I am not saying Jackson lacks talent, but he has had some hard roads. I also am surprised that calling a person who has posted a comment a "fool person" is left on. As for Marie's son in rehab, that was a tasteless comment, and addiction is no respecter or persons, mine is chocolate.
Everyone is of Equal Value | 12:34 a.m. April 1, 2008
Just because we don't buy into pop culture doesn't mean we are "losers".

I think because there are so few "famous" mormons, that many mormons get worried about the few famous mormons.

Do you see jews worrying about what Jerry Seinfeld is up to or Catholics worrying about what Jim McMahon is doing?

I respect whatever good D&M have contributed but just because they are famous doesn't make them anymore acceptable or valuble than the homeless guy that hangs out in their neighborhood.

MoJules,

Get plastic surgery and have your hair colored like they do and you'll look better.

Bookaholic, did it occur to you that perhaps it is precisely because David sings "do-gooder" songs that he is experiencing this success? Anyone can sing popular, recognizable songs, but not just anyone can sing uplifting "do-gooder" songs that make people feel good for reasons they can't explain. It's called offering people a glimpse that there is more than popularity or rehashing someone else's hits on the path to success. One can succeed by being different and standing as someone "peculiar" in a world of moral lemmings. Don't tell him to stop being what he is, a refreshing alternative to the popular, recognizable worldly entertainment that surrounds him.
Sulky | 5:29 a.m. April 1, 2008
Didnt Donny go through a 'sulky' stage in his career when no one wanted to know him anymore. And didnt Marie say that marriage was the most important thing in her life but couldnt give up showbiz??? And wasnt being on TV more important than being with her dad when he died??? Hey these two are great examples of just loving being famous!!!
Re: Sulky | 6:49 p.m. April 1, 2008
Exactly, Sulky. Marie and Donny were far from perfect (as is everyone!), because holding up your standards does not prevent you from being tarnished like everyone else.

MARIE WOULD RATHER BE TV THAT WITH HER DAD?! UPLIFTING!!! Who cared for HER when she was 2 feet tall? Hmmm . . . who earned the money for her diapers, clothes, toys, food, milk, formula, hair ribbons, furniture, house, and not to mention zillions of other things for her mother . . .

If I was on some TV show and my dad was dying . . . who cares what America thinks, I'd want to thank him for a lifetime of love.
