I'll take Larson's approach over Allred's.

The second approach by my good neighbor Karen Larson is a good defensive position.
We do need to attract active good neighbors to add to the ones we have, we do need to protect and preserve our community.
But with the existing crime we had to take immediate action. This was no suburban Utah neighborhood for people even without kids.
I started the offensive position. We need both to fight the crime and improve the area.
First we had to fight off immediate dangers and protect our lives and property. And no I wasn't eying a group of teenagers smoking cigarettes. The people police picked up on our street have made the news. These people were found with crack pipes, knives, cocaine in the amounts they were charged with distributing, bolt cutters, stolen vehicles and more. That is just what the police were able to find (hard to convict prostitutes).
We are now a well protected neighborhood. Not free of crime but nothing close to what we were two years ago.
