Thank God for Principal Merrill! At a time when teenagers are killing other teenagers who are Gay, the discussion should be about tolerence not hate. The problem is not same sex attraction but those who wish to divide us, who are gay against those who are not.

We are not abnormal, Mr Graham, and Mrs. Jensen. Those teenagers who are questioning thier sexual orientation, do not need help to over come same-gender attraction, but rather to realize if they are gay it's ok.

It is time to stop teaching hate in our schools, no more bullying, no more murders, no more suicides of our Gay Sons and Daughters. Their lives are as precious as those who are straight. They, we are normal.
Freedom of Speech | 6:37 a.m. March 28, 2008
Where are the same people defending the rights of the PTA that were defending the rights of free adults to draw with live nude models, where is the freedom of speech now?

"No one is forcing any parent to attend the meeting. Only in Utah would we have such ignorance, if this were the NY Times, no one would have the audacity to suggest the abridgment of these peoples freedom of speech. It's not like these adults can't think for themselves, where is the harm in it?"

Normal?

Homosexuality isn't normal. Sexual behavior is a choice even if the underlying attraction exists. Take the Idaho senator Craig for example. He is straight, but decided to pursue gay sex because he was in the mood. His behavior was destructive to both himself and his family and seemingly puts in context the gay lifestyle of acting on urges that harm familial relationships. That makes homosexuality as bad as pornography in its effects on the family. Heterosexual activity outside of marriage is equally destructive.

Can you choose not to act on homosexual behavior? Of course. If that were not true then even rape, as reprehensible as it is, would be justified, because no one could help or choose not to do it. Therein lies the problem, homosexual behavior (and bad heterosexual behavior) as a choice has negative societal impacts and are illegal in Utah for that reason.

This is called: principal backed up.

So the principal calls the shots of the independent association?

Really? I think it got too hot in the kitchen.

Whatever people believe, they have a right to those beliefs. It is America, the home of the free. We don't need to judge others for who they are, but to accept all. In a school environment, let us focus on helping those students to not hate for being different, but to accept others for who they are and grow together. Let us not judge where we being unperfect ourselves have no room to judge.
Sanity at Last! | 8:04 a.m. March 28, 2008
Sounds like the calvary came to the rescue on this one. I'm glad that sanity prevailed and this presentation was halted. The whole idea was hurtful and wrong-headed to begin with. Situations like this make me realize that we are far from living the law of "love one another."

It doesn't matter how you feel about homosexuality.
No one in their right mind wants the school system to teach what's "normal."

Human cultures tend to change pretty quickly, and societal norms change, but they don't just get more "liberal." For example, think about how socially excepted smoking was during the 30's - 50's. Adult men were expected to smoke.
Allow this to be said? | 9:18 a.m. March 28, 2008
The Agenda can never be to acknowledge that homosexuality is a choice. Choices are an exercise of agency. Moral agency, by the way, because every time we exercise agency there are consequences. Every time. The Agenda can never be accountability and responsibility. But these always follow the exercise of agency. Always. In that context, what could be discussed in a forum that would remove these true principles? Nothing. The Agenda can only express excuses as to why this choice has to be acceptable, and when the original fountain of the principle is polluted, the flowing water will be polluted. Adults and young people who understand these principles needn't hear more from the Agenda. Impressionable adults AND YOUNG PEOPLE and who don't understand or acknowledge these principles as true most likely, will, when listening to The Agenda, be influenced to be sympathetic and accepting. That is why The Agenda wants and needs as many forums as it can get - the opportunity to disseminate The Agenda. That is where the ACLU has stepped in - to assure The Agenda is given as many forums as possible, under the pretext of "freedom". Those who live The Agenda lifestyle don't appear "free".
Question | 9:53 a.m. March 28, 2008
Why aren't more people questioning how this violates the separation of church and state. Why is an LDS represented group presenting to a public school?

too bad the principal caved to the gay special interests. They have created such a hostile environment of fear and intimidation with the PC gestapo that no school official wants to come anywhere near it.

The people need to be educated about the many web sites young people can go to to take a "test" to see if they are gay. It is a bogus test that can twist "normal" affections and attractions into "gay feelings". Many students are falling for this and are acting out on their new found "sexuality". These are children who are not "gay" but have been misled.Parents need to be educated about this so that they can educate their children in a way that is consitant with their own values.

We should all be extremely thankful this presentation was canceled and this charade has come to light. No matter what you think of homosexuality personally, the schools are no place for us to preach either for or against the practice. Schools are to remain objective and open so as to serve all students as equally and totally as possible.

Whether or not homosexuality is a choice is irrelevant. If a student chooses that lifestyle, so be it; as a public institution our schools have no business judging that choice.

And that's exactly what this group - Standard of Liberty - does. Their website is full of factual inaccuracies and opinionated perspectives. They are not objective in any way, and as such have no place in our schools - which we all pay for with tax dollars.

Even if you agree with SoL's perspective, please take a moment and think about the underlying principle here. Opinionated, agenda-pushing groups should stay out of our public institutions. It doesn't even matter that the meeting was voluntary - it was hosted by a public school and PTA organization, and as such has an inherent responsibility to remain strictly objective. Period.

Sorry Rue but gay/lesbian people are NOT normal. Look up the definition of the word. I know the whole GLBT group is pushing for that to be accepted but it's a lie. The NORM for the VAST majority of human beings is a heterosexual bent as is "natural" whether looked at from a scientific or religious viewpoint.

That being said, a PTA meeting for a public school is NOT the proper forum for this type of discussion. The PTA should be about students and they're secular education. Any "sex ed" should be limited to basic function and purpose of human anatomy with NO interpretation, bias or "alternative" explanations thrown in. That is the role of the parent in a home environment. Not the government and a public environment.

I'm Mormon and feel that homosexual tendencies are aberrant and should be controlled and not acted upon. It is NOT acceptable to try and force others to accept some other group based on HOW they like their sex.

Again though, that is something to be addressed in a private forum and NOT in public.

The schools job is to educate our kids, not be the "morality" police. Why not have this meeting at church on Sunday after your services. The schools have issues enough educating our kids, why bring in this drama (and that's exactly what it is).
Teach science/art/writing skills at the school, anything else is none of their business.

Homosexuality is about a life style. Rape is usually about domination and control not just sex as you seem to think.
