Orem will allow any development, anywhere, no matter how ugly, no matter how out-of-place. No wonder the developers love it.

Yeah, Orem gets an A+ from me too........for ugly urban sprawl, trashy-looking strip malls featuring too many $7 megaburrito joints, jewelry stores, and big box hardware/grocery/movie theaters.

Obviously Orem would get an A+ from developers - it's an easy place to make money because no one will stop them from building whatever they want wherever they want.

If there's a perfectly laid out and aesthetically pleasing place out there, Orem is its exact opposite.

Answer to: Rule of the People.

Developers have green clout (and I'm not talking environmentalism). On the other hand, you (or I) don't matter.

right on...i have lived in orem my whole life, and have seen this city get uglier every year...it seems to be the case that they will let developers go anywhere and build anything...for example that big eyesore off of state street and about 4 or 8th south, that has only filled like 5 or 6 of it 80 units...who is letting this happen give them the boot...also in the city not very good road planning.

most Utah cities, and especially Orem need a sign ordinance to keep State Street from looking like a flea market.

Have you seen Orem? It's nothing but HODGE-PODGE. It's like someone threw up old a little new and some churches over the land. I don't really see the difference between Provo,Orem or Pleasent Grove.THey all look the same. Looks like a giant garage sale.

While I live in Orem, I work in American Fork. I think the rating is inaccurate. American Fork has hired a new building inspector, a new senior planner, and worked to make turn around times quicker. Whatever, deficiencies existed in the past, the city has certainly improved the processes the last few years.
