Clueless Jay says: "Not raising taxes has its price, too. The Tax Foundation notes that if this year's budget deficit were figured in, Tax Freedom Day would come 10 days later."

The problem isn't with too little taxing. The problem is with too much spending.

We need to stop complaining about taxes and pay more of them.

Politicians focus too much on the tax rate and not enough on the "spending rate", and that's the real problem. Until we accept that we need to actually cut the spending we will not be able pay down the national debt. Yes, there will be pain involved but the sooner we accept it, the shorter the time we will have to endure it.

And yet Utah happily plans tax guzzling extravaganzas like the Lake Powell Pipeline and ranting moms campaign for luxury public rec centers under the threat that their kids must have them or will turn to graffiti for recreation instead. Utahns love their tax pork just as much as people in other states, they just want the taxes piled on for lush golf courses and recreation rather than social programs.

Liar - You either joined the wrong party, or you are lying about being a Utah Republican.

Thanks for the great article, Jay. Overtaxed has it right. Our government needs to quit spending like drunken sailors.

If we want lower taxes, we have to do things for ourselves rather than asking government to do them for us. We 'demand' our government to spend billions on roads and rails when we could solve our traffic problems for free (and a lot faster) - if we would only carpoool.
