I'm so sorry for those who lost loved ones in the war. I know how they worry and feel, my husband was twice in vietnam. But we need to finish what we started so that our children and grandchildren hopfully don't have to go thru that again.I wish people could get along and we would not have all this fighting and killing. I know it is no fun I grown up during the second world war.

We finally made 4000. The commander in chief hides in the white house and will make no announcement about this. He led us into an illegal war, and now watches our brave men and women die to keep sunnis from killing shiites and vice versa.

Tell the Iraqis we are moving on. Otherwise, we will have this war for 100 more years (McCain said that didn't he). Our blood and treasure is not to be spent keeping people from killing each other, who are literally dieing to do it.

Oh, yeah, remember: Mission Accomplished.

We've been lied to. 9-11 had no Iraqis. It did involve Saudis...

We've been lied to. Figure a way out, and then let's get out.

PS - do not elect McCain. He has his eye on Iran, and we do not have the forces anymore to pull off such an insane idea.

Okay Russ I'm not a McCain Fan but as a conservative who should I vote for please tell me, because I'll tell you I wont vote for either of the two democrats and neither will 5% of the deseret new's readership. I agree Bush doesn't seem to do anything right (not that I hate him) and we have crappy options again.

the peace of the surge has been one that has been created by voluntary compliance by the iraqs, when they decide that it wont make a difference in their daily lives, they will be back at each other again.

sob is right. There is a cease-fire on the part of Muqtada al-Sadr's Mahdi army that could resume any time. We've also been paying Sunni forces to fight al-Qaida elements in Iraq. There are no guarantees that either side won't start up against us again.

We've now turned the corner in Iraq. There are only a few dead enders left, and now that we've found the WMDs that Saddam had when he attacked us on 9/11, it won't be long before Iraq is a total success just like Afghanistan. The Iraqi government has already reached the point where they can provide security and services for their people. Now we can concentrate on Iran, Syria, Pakistan. It's always better fighting them over there, than fighting them over here, and now that we've destroyed the mighty Iraqi Navy, they have no way of getting over here. Bringing "democracy" at the point of a gun has always worked throughout history, and Iraq is just another example of that fact. Thank you.

Everyone keeps saying we are making progress, this is besides the point. There was no reason to go in - in the first place.

We are fighting them (terrorists) on their own terms.

Conservatives ask who would Ossama Bin Ladin want elected? Well I could care less. I am not going to vote based on that Ossama wants or doesn't want. My vote will go to what is best for the country.

We can pay for needs at home or we can continue to fight a useless war.

During the Vietnam days when the powers that be convinced people we should be going full-throttle against the "Red Menace," after it became clear that the war wasn't going as planned, massive protests occured, people burned their draft cards, and while both sides of the House and Senate (and the rest of the country) were slugging it out about this awful war - it dragged on for 10 bloody years. 10 YEARS!
Interestingly enough, today the U.S. and Communist Vietnam are trading partners - lots of rubber comes from Vietnam.
Perhaps someday the American people at large will figure it out that it is always the economy before any bogus ideology. But how do you expect the soldier to "take that hill" by telling him he's dying for the economy?

We'll put up with some insane stuff from politics as long as its' practicioners love the correct god, only cut taxes whether or not we benefit, and promote unfettered access to guns of all kinds, as well as marginalising as far as possible gays, women, minorities, etc.
