The Utah Voter Poll by BYU on Feb 2 before the Presidential Primary had McCain at 55% against Obama. Unlike the article leads us to believe, he's simply holding steady or even losing ground. I think the reporter's narrative is shaped more by the national media's spin these days than by what we are seeing in all Utah polling -- which is that John McCain is running very poorly for a GOP nominee in Utah. He should be in the mid- to high- sixties.

I will hold my nose with one hand, and vote McCain with the other. Does that constitute "getting over Mitt"? Though the poll may be accurate, I don't think it captures the true feelings of why people like myself will vote McCain.

I refuse to "warm up" to McCain. My memory is too good to allow such a thing. I haven't forgotten how he took his mother on TV to say that she didn't like "Mormons". McCain's treatment of Romney was disgraceful. McCain will never get my vote. Besides, he is too old and can't control his temper.

"Getting over McCain", I don't think so. He is an angry, contentious, liberal, lier as we learned from Florida. He is not a conservative. You don't get "over" that, you pick someone else.

As a very strong conservative I can only say that unless he chooses a strong Reagan conservative, not the Huckster), then I will not vote this election and allow a democrat to win if nothing more than to spank the republican party for their selfish and religiously bigotted nominating process.

Count me out!

The good news is that the social conservatives have no candidate in the race. Even better is that their behavior towards McCain during the latter part of the primary race has thoroughly alienated them from the party leadership. What would make it outstanding is if Dobson or one of is ilk would come out firmly against McCain and put a stake through the heart of social conservative dominance of the Republican party.

Utahns will have to choose between a moderate Republican and a center-left Democrat. In either case, the country wins.

Conservatives are not ï¿½getting over Mittï¿½; we are making the best of a crummy situation. We will, as McCainï¿½s his mom suggests, hold our noses and vote for him. It is no reflection on Gov Romney (nor in fact any credit to McCain).
However conservatives do need to ask themselves how well the Republican Party is working for them. In every Presidential election since 1988 I have voted for a Republican candidate I was not exited about but saw as the lesser of two bad choices. I was willing to ï¿½play niceï¿½ and support the partyï¿½s nominee regardless. Despite electing several Republican presidents in that time the moral values that are most important to our nationï¿½s well being; sanctity of life, sanctity of marriage and family, etc; have continued to erode at a high rate. One wonders if winning with a moderate is that much better than losing would be, and I for one am sick of settling for the lesser of two evils every four years.
I hope Gov Romney starts running for 2012 as soon as the inauguration is over, regardless of who wins in Nov. This conservative is probably ï¿½playing niceï¿½ for the last election.

It's pick-your-poison time in this country as far as Presidential candidates are concerned! For instance, ALL of these 'Progressives' have said they will be raising taxes, i.e. Obama--well over 50 percent--this coupled with high gas prices, hyper-inflation (silent taxation has devalued the US dollar$ due to the current administrations' reckless, quantum printing of funny-money), and high food prices--spawned also by current AND soon-to-be shortages in grain.

Inspite of the news media blackout throughout this country, last I heard, we still have Congressman Ron Paul (TX) in the running for President and for the most part (far more than all the other candidates combined) believes in upholding and adherence to our beloved Rule of Law, The U.S. Constitution. Amazing that that just, durable document still survives, but it's so shredded and eroded beyond current recognition.... Heaven have mercy on "we the people" when McCain or Obama get their chance to continue strangling and snuffing the life out of it!

Yet again, there are people who can't help but insult the intelligence of people who disagree with them. Donald Dunn (Clinton spokesman) attacks Republicans who, GASP!, want to vote for a Republican. One wonders how many times HE has just "come home to roost" by voting for the Democratic candidate. When the answer turns out to be "always," will he accept attacks on HIS intelligence? Same to "Goose."

The simple truth is, my dear bitter Utah Democrats, I will always vote for the candidate that most closely represents my ideas about good government, and until the parties change somehow, that seems to be the one with the (R) next to his/her name, about 95% of the time. (Interestingly, that's more like 50% of the time when it comes to local politics).

Yes its true, after all, who else is their to vote for. This is the sad state of affairs that we find ourselves in today. Vote Demoncat and for sure have your freedom and hard-earned living confiscated (read what Hill and Barack Husein are promising ) or take your chances with the other guy.

I've voted Democrat before, but prefer the GOP this year. More recent events have only served to confirm this choice.

I (slightly) preferred Romney to McCain, but now that Romney is out, I will accept McCain as the lesser evil. Of course, I was also accepting Romney as a "lesser evil" as well.

It's a mess, but it's politics. You make due with the candidates you have.

My vote is a write-in for Mitt Romney unless McCain picks up him up as VP. That is the only way I will vote for him. He has done way too little here in Arizona and used us for years for his own political advantage.

I remember the McCain-Kennedy bill, and his other promote the criminal illegal alien amnesty proposals.

I like McCain, but I can't elect a man who is 70+ years old, at a time when our country faces so many issues! How many 70+ years old have you met that understanding today's working world? McCain will be unable to relate to the daily issues facing the average American worker and said it himself, "I don't have that much knowledge of the Economy"! We face greater issues than gun control and abortion...We can't fight a war on terror, if we don't have an economy to fight it!

There was no way that Obama was going to carry Utah. A better question for the Dan Jones poll would have been are you willing to donate to McCain. The fact is this is really a lesser of three evils election. McCain will carry the votes but it will be with noses held. The McCain camp does not understand that ardent conservatives have not embraced him and will not carry out the tough campaigning. His speeches are uninspiring and his lack of an economic plan leaves me flat.

I will not vote for McCain and I think it is absolutely ridiculous that the people in Utah are going to vote for him just because he's a Republican. Why don't the people in Utah follow the counsel of the Brethren and vote for the most qualified individual despite party affiliation, which in this case would be anyone but McCain. How can anyone on the planet think he could lead this country? I'd vote for one of Jeff Foxworthy's fifth graders before I voted for McCain.

McCain will surely be a "war president" if elected. He sings about it, he talks about it, he seems to be very comfortable with war and its consequences, ramifications, etc. Look for 4 more years of Bush administration if elected. I myself have switched to an Independent status and I will vote for WHOEVER I decide to in November. I urge all Repulicans to do the same. Please don't vote mindlessly for this man just because he is a Republican.

I'll never "get over" Mitt. In terms of his executive experience, character, and intelligence he was head and shoulders above every candidate in both parties. It'll take a while for me to forgive the Republican party for nominating the unimpressive McCain over Romney. The one shot McCain has at partial redemption is if he picks Romney as his running mate. If that doesn't happen, I'm not sure I'll even vote.

It was easy to get over Mitt. He flipped and he flopped. He believed in waterboarding. His boys never served a day in the military, neither did he. He made money off of buying companies for the 20 cents on the dollar and then firing people and then reselling the companies for 50 cents on the dollar.

It is real easy to get over such a bonafide fake.

Mitt certainly had his problems. He has the image of being the Senator Kerry of the Republican party. You just dont trust what he is saying sometimes.

I wish Mitt would have taken a position advocating "progress in Irag" vs nothing but war. McCain is one trick pony. His only position is war. Mitt should have said military decisions are often made by people who resist war (see Cuban missle cris)

Mitt should have also more stongly connected McCains lying about Mitts surge statements to the fact that he will only make a half hearted effort to secure our borders and then he will pass almost the exact same amnisty immigration bill. He will lie again.

Lastly, Mccain is a one term president. He will do what he has always done which is his own thing.

I am a moderate Republican myself but I dont like the immigration position or the war at all costs position.

Maybe this country does need change for changes sake.

The people of this state are not just followers I found that out just recently, I am not from here and always called them sheeple but I am apologizing now the ones who talk in the posts are sick and tired of the graft and lining the pockets of our elected officials I have watched them turn in the posts and I am proud of them. It took a minute but we are not going to stand for these posers any more. We think the punishment should fit the crimes and I bet those who sold us out for Italys nuclear waste will have to live out there in close proximity to that waste site and after 20 years we will check in on them and any health concersn they have then we will tell them not enough research has been done in this area to pay them any money but we will research it for 20 more years and get back to them .....that is what they would have done to us. go utah I am proud of you.

I was a Romney supporter but when he dropped out I had to seriously analyze the alternatives. I won't be voting for McCain -- or Obama -- or Hillary.

None are part of the solution. They are ALL part of the problem. To cast a vote for any of them would be only to condone what they do in Washington.

I'll either be writing in Ron Paul or voting for the Libertarian.

As a parent, if I were to not discipline my children for misbehavior, and even rewarded them for misbehavior, it could rightly be said that I taught them to misbehave. Well, I think it is high time that We the People took responsibility for teaching our elected officials to misbehave.

What happens when they lie to us...? We re-elect them. What happens to them when they vote for policies that put this country into massive debt...? We re-elect them. What happens when they enact policies that exceed their constitutional authority...? We re-elect them.

Now then, if you are of the opinion that is NOT OK for politicians to put this country into massive debt, or to operate outside of the constitution, you can't in good conscience vote for ANY of the major three candidates.

If you are distressed with McCain's leftishness, what would it help to vote for Hillary or Obama? Do you suddenly believe in the something-for-nothing philosophy?

But if you vote for McCain you have carefully taught the GOP that we WANT leftists for candidates -- that we don't care about fiscal responsibility or ANYTHING Republicans have stood for....

The only way I see the Republican Party ever getting the message that we won't stand for this kind of behavior is to write-in the name of someone who has ALWAYS voted for policies that were within our national means and within the rules that our leaders agreed to abide by. And there is sadly only one candidate who fits these criteria.

If the Republicans lose this fall, they need to know why. If the protest votes go to the Democrats, they will never understand why and might even trudge more left-ward in their quest to regain power.

If McCain wins this fall, Republicans will have been carefully taught that it is perfectly acceptable for them to be financially corrupt to operate outside any rules we say they need to operate within.

I suggest that you write-in Ron Paul. Even if you don't agree with him on everything.... We'll sort that out later.

Utahan's, as a whole, will flock like "sheep to the slaughter when it ocmes to suppporting Romney.

McCain is a liberal at heart, as well as Romney--his record proves it if you will do the homework!

Utahan's will not support McCain (as a whole) whether Romney endorses him or not.

Why? Because Utahan's are LDS and they will vote for an LDS candidate whether he's a Socialist or not!

Look for McCain to lose the presidential race. Obama or Clinton will win the presidential election because Utahan's can't think outside their religious belief system.

Sheep mentality will never work in national elections. Until the LDS people learn to think outside "religion: as in opposition to Christianity, your vote will be wasted!

Ron Paul gave Utahan's a chance for their vote to get back to constitutional principles. You have squandered that opportunity and now you will face the consequences of your short-sightedness!

You get exactly what you vote for. What Utahan's will get is a Socialist President. The reason: You can't think outside of your predjudice's.

Politics, whether you like it or not, is not in the same genre as religion. When Utahan's learn this, they will find their niche!

As a senior LDS I am wondering why seasoned citizens run the Quorumn of the Twelve and the First Presidency? It is because God wants seasoned minds making right decisions. They are proven people with a track record and an ability to make sound decisions. Non Mormons don't get it, at least it dosen't come up in the blogs. So...if you think Obama can lead us to the promised land, give it a try and you can fix the mess next time around, if there is fixing that can be done. For the most part, Democrats have taken us into war, not Republicans! Geo. W being an exception..strange Republican he is! We have a delimena on our hands..Pray for help!
