Denial is dangerous

I think the article hits the bigger issue spot on. Many seniors do not believe it will happen to them. In this situation, an ounce of prevention is worth a ton of cure.

If you are over 65, no matter how active you are and how young you feel, falling is a serious risk.

Other family members and I tried in vain to help clear out and make safe a loved one's home. A spry, active and healthy woman finally relented but before we could finish the months long job, she fell in her kitchen and died within hours.

Please listen to your children and other loved ones. I know it is a hard pill to swallow, but it is better to re-arrange living quarters or downsize homes than to fall and die or become an invalid due to injury.

Falls are very common in the elderly. Outside of the normal "remove triping hazards", What can be done in the way of excercies that will create better ballance and increased flexibility to make the older person less likely to "sprawl" in a fall?

Younger people tend to regain balance before they fall and they may stumble, but not "sprawl".
