War (What's it good for?) | 1:16 a.m. March 19, 2008
I hated the idea of this war back when first started talking about it. But, hey, we're there. What now? What a world, what a world, what a world.... I'm melting. Heaven help us. What are we gonna do? And if this war is a precedent of wisdom and patriotism, why, we're gonna need to take over the capital city of every country in the world in order to protect ourselves from terror. Either than or make ourselves lots of money. Wait, not ourselves, just the owners.
Don't blame me | 5:41 a.m. March 19, 2008
Get used to hearing, from now until - doomsday, from the GOP how wonderful it is that we have 'liberated' Iraq (if you want to call it that)and how safe we all are because of no 9/11s, and when anybody speaks out against the never-ending quagmire and how it is bankrupting our fine country, they will soundly be called "bad Americans" or "unpatriotic" or even "traitors."
See how ugly things have become thanks to Bush Doctrine? I can proudly say, I didn't vote for them.

lots of money being made | 5:57 a.m. March 19, 2008
In an economy going south, and cheap labor overseas, etc., there really aren't very many ways for CEO's to make megabucks.
The duo of Bush/Cheney have found ways in oil and war.
And don't expect either party to halt them now. Nobody wants to be called a traitor, or a troop-hater.
See how easy it is when a preemptive war is waged?
A cash cow it is.

5 years. And still Bush who lied to us to get us there, cost us trillions of dollars (yes, plural), and 4000 American lives, and thousands more injured forever, and still... he has not been impeached.

what a con game.

ps -- not a single Iraqi was involved in the 911 attack. remember?
feeling sick | 7:13 a.m. March 19, 2008
And now Dick Cheney is trying to pursuade us to compare the Iraq quamire to our Civil War and to think of he and Bush as similar to Abraham Lincoln.
Excuse me, but I think I am going to throw up.

Five years of murders in an undeclared war by an invading nation led by an International War Criminal.

Just as the US protected and paid Japanese General Shiro Ishii and his Unit 731 soldiers for biological an chemical experimental information (on US POW's) we are still at it. War criminals from the top down.

US 'moral inferiority' knows no bounds.

Stop calling it a war. The war was about a week long or so; this is the occupation...
big differences | 8:16 a.m. March 19, 2008
I sincerely hope that at this point, we Americans (and the rest of the world) will never forget that there is a monumental difference between the American people and the group that happens to be in control at the moment.

Sad how deluded people have become in this country and in particular the internet. The bathe themselves in negativity and self indulgent hatred.

America will be fine as long as it's people are. Unfortunately, even the good people are starting to turn sour. However, those that are good still outweigh the bad, but if you were only to only look at the behavior and mentality of the internet you couldn't help but being discouraged.

I don't think the division and hatred has ever been so high since the civil war. The stench that reeks in ultra urban areas of the rest of this world is starting to drift it's way into Utah's borders.
Tim | 8:22 a.m. March 19, 2008
If there's a hell, Bush ought to be there. What an arrogant fool.
Sick of Liberals | 8:27 a.m. March 19, 2008
Bush lied? You didn't vote for this? What have you done? Ever considered contribuing to this conuntry instead of crying????
SLC'er | 8:42 a.m. March 19, 2008
I'm glad to see that there are so many others in Utah who realize that this "war" was such a huge and consequential mistake. The U.S. is less safe today because of this invasion. I hope and pray that we have leadership in the next year that will set forth a plan to responsibly get us out of Iraq and stop the invasion. We have lost almost 4,000 American soldiers, have murdered hundreds of not thousands of innocent Iraqis, have caused substantial unrest leading to the death of even more innocent Iraqis by terror cells in Iraq and will possibly lead to civil war, and, lastly, have had so much fiscal irresponsibility that our children will be in debt forever. Absolutely disgusting. I hope the rest of the world will realize that we Americans are not necessarily a reflection of our leaders. Here's to leadership that can get us out of Iraq responsibly!!

the soviets were going to "liberate" afghanistan and after about 8 years, left with little other then a large number of dead and tremendous debt which many see as the root cause for the final collapse of the soviet economy, lets see, any possible parallels going on now? and what was our contribution to that prior mess, osama bin laden, well armed, well trained and angry at the west.
it has been said that afghanistan was the soviets' viet nam,,,,, is iraq americas afghanistan. afghanistan is where we should have spent the energy we have on iraq and maybe something positive would have resulted. now we have a wonderfully dedicated and motivated military force, but vastly under strength to take on our real threat in the area which is iran. but oh well, we can just take over the oil that is "ours" in iraq and pay for the whole thing cant we. atleast cheany will be well paid when her returns to halliburton and bush will be a consultant for several oil companies, like his dad

To Chris: what on earth are you talking about?? What do you mean by the "good people" turning sour?? Have you not been paying attention? If you want to talk about "stench", I'd say you ought to take a whiff of what's coming out of the White House.
Earl | 8:56 a.m. March 19, 2008
To Sick of Liberals: you don't get it. This is not a liberal/conservative issue, unless you define a conservative as pro-war and liberal as anti-war. I'm anything but a liberal, but I am very much anti-war. As for "contributing to this country," please let us all know what initiating a war against a sovereign nation that had no interest or capability in fighting us has to do with "contributin to this country." It has done exactly the opposite!

to sick of liberals
if seeing the horror of this situation is a "liberal" view then the more liberal the better.
i did not vote for bush because he has never told the truth any time he makes a proposal , that is what rove told him to do "The Prince" is his favorite book, the theme being the bigger the lie, the more will believe.
and i would think that serving in viet nam and in the gulf war and 25+ years of military service would be worth something to my country.
sick of conservatives | 9:02 a.m. March 19, 2008
Even with the vast majority of Americans against the never-ending, country-bankrupting, illegal and immoral war and occupation, the died-in-the-wool conservatives are STILL suggesting Americans against this quagmire are un-American.
Most of America cannot wait until November.
Conservative fan base | 9:15 a.m. March 19, 2008
Sick of liberals is just proof that there are STILL those ultra-conservative extremists who can't wait to turn on their radios and TVs to Rush O'Hannity to get their daily fix of "we hate liberals" (aka Democrats) and the other usual far-right claptrap.
These are some very, very disturbed individuals.
Annon | 9:27 a.m. March 19, 2008
Lets face it we have been lied to on all accounts. There is no way that we can put a positive spin on it. The truth is that the elected officials do represent us. We voted for them. (Unless we really believe they are dictators). Every one outside of America believe most Americans are gullible or stupid or just like their president. It is rather embarrassing. I was in another country recently and they just laughed about the 9/11. Why? Because those buildings were not brought down by planes! They were imploded! It is absolutely impossible for it to have happened the way they said it did. Everyone knows it but us! Why? because we believe everything they tell us. Please! "WAKE UP" and see things as they really are. lets do our own research and don't believe everything that comes from the media.
McCain 2008 | 9:48 a.m. March 19, 2008
McCain just put his foot in his mouth demonstrating the same confusion over the Middle east as Bush/Cheney. No one ever found evidence of weapons of Mass destruction, and the war on terror never found Bin Laden. It's futile, America is now viewed poorly in the rest of the world and can expect to be pouring dollars , munition and lives into more of the same for years to come. Negative, possibly but it needs....change. With no clear plan other than killing off Saddam, America set itself an impossible task and isn't going to find a military solution, criticising those few countries willing to commit troops is going to leave it very isolated!
russ | 12:23 p.m. March 19, 2008
I excuse John McCain for messing up yesterday on whether it was al quieda or terrorists or iran or iraq...

The guy is 71? If elected, Grandpa will be running the country. He had no clue what he just said. And it took Liberman to correct him! Leaves me speechless.

Let's take a long hard look across the aisle at Obama and Hillary. At least they are aware... of site and situation. Young. Not needing help!! wow...

McCain spoke and looked so proud of himself, like Bush. A chill went through my body.

What really constitutes "five years"?

Soviet plans were 5 years. Many college programs are now five years, not four. Most tenure track programs at universities are 5-6 years. The beginning and ending of WWII for America was less than 5 years.

5 years: a kid is 12 and at the top of little league baseball, 5 years later they are 17 and driving a car, enlisting in the military, or even getting married.

5 years: 62 for retirement, 67 much better retirement.

5 years: for some cancers, if you can be cancer free for 5 years you are over the hump, so to speak.

5 years: one-fourth of a generation.

5 years: we are in Iraq and still haven't put the place in order, etc.

100 years, 20 times 5 years, is what McCain thinks is ok to "win in Iraq. 20 of these 5 years...

The Shadow Pauses.

PS- did anyone think that 5 years after the invasion of Iraq that we would be in the mess we are in? How long ago did Bush say we had won

Speaking of which, what is "winning" in this quagmire? Getting out with... with what????? in 100 years? Oh garbage.
