It is so easy for a person to get themselves in a predicament like this. These animals were almost certainly all the result of irresponsible pet owners not having their cats spayed and neutered. Please folks. Don't let your cat have kittens so the children can see the miracle of birth. Don't let them reproduce because it is their "natural inclination." The downside of this kind of thinking is the suffering of potentially thousands of unwanted cats and their kittens, and their kittens' kittens, ad infinitum. And college students, please don't get a pet you can't properly care for and then abandon it when you leave town. We know some of you do that.
There are lots of big hearted people who try to step in and make things easier on the roaming animals but they just can't make the difference that spaying and neutering can.
