You're right...as a BYU fan in upstate New York, I am doing the happy prospector dance over the mtn./Direct TV deal.
Out-of-state Ute fans? Really?
This has nothing to do with giving 'BYU' the worst timeslot. BYU was the #1 seed in the tournament, having won the regular season championship. The #1 seed has played at noon ever since the MWC has had tournaments, and before that in the WAC for exactly the reasons you mention (extra rest, less competitive games).
You know, I'm actually ok with the time slot. It gives the highest advantage to the team with the best earned record. Predictably the number one team to the play-in team was a blow out. Who wants to watch those? (well besides me, I like to watch BYU blow out other teams) CSU had little time to rest from its game yesterday, and BYU will have the best chance to scout the upcoming teams without having to worry about playing a different team in 30 minutes.
I would rather BYU won a game that I didn't get to see than watch a game that BYU loses.
Isn't it interesting that all BYU fans think that the whole world is picking on them. Get over it, grow up, that's the time slot awarded their seed. It has nothing to do with the fact that it is BYU.
I can't believe I read this piece. WHO CARES what the timeslot is??? Tournaments must adopt some sort of schedule and it's nice to finally see that they're not bowing to the demands of a TV contract in scheduling games. BTW, Scott, KSL Radio streams very nicely any time of day. As long as The mtn. is involved I REFUSE to watch any game it presents, BYU or not.
If BYU had been scheduled to play in the evening session you would have been whining about not getting enough rest, and like everything else, it would have been a conspiracy since you think the whole world is against BYU.
Get a life-
I love your broad generalization about "all BYU fans" when two BYU fans above you have made the same statement you did. I'll make it 3. We realize that is the timeslot awarded to their seed. I don't agree with this article at all, and neither should anyone. It has nothing to do with BYU being left out of the best time slot and everything to do with rest.
Isn't the worst time slot for a MWC game any time slot? Who the heck has cable and CAN watch the mtn? Aren't those that currently have cable the same ones that use Old Spice and drive Hugos? Thank goodness for Directv and look for DISH to follow suit soon.
Cause they stink and no one wants to watch them.
Although the time slot is not good for viewing fans, it is the best time slot for the team. They have the advantage of getting their game over, and can begin preperations for the next game. Playing three games in three days, the more rest between games that you can get the better. This is not unique to the Mountain West. Utah St. the #1 seed in the WAC also played the early time slot. It is the best time slot to have.
Common "Get A Life" you have to look logically on this one, who has the biggest national fan base in the Mountain West, and who has broke into the national scene by breaking into the top 25. They deserve to have the later time slot just for that reason. Take a look at all the other conferences, the better teams get the better times, that's just the way it is. It's bad enough that UNLV gets to play on thier home court every year, but now they are getting the better times as well. Im not mad cause it's BYU I am mad that the best team in the conference is getting the worse treatment.
Who cares about the time slot. The 2 late games were great games. I would rather get home from work and watch the 3 vs 6 and the 2 vs 7 than BYU run wild over a pathetic Colo St. team.
I don't see any BYU fans complaining, it was the article. As far as getting a life, you're the one with nothing better to do than sit on you're computer and worry about what BYU is doing. You're the one that needs a life.
Re: Get a life
Really, I'm an avid BYU fan andm in this casem I wasn't at all concerned with the time slot. Sure it would have been nice to have the game in prime time so I could have watched it, but I would much rather see my team given the resting advantage they deserved by winning the regular season championship.
It was also nice to see the MWC making some attempt to neutralize UNLV's home court advantage by removing all of the UNLV banners and signage, and reconfiguring the seating.
When another arena becomes available in Las Vegas, the tournament should, and will, be moved to it, to make the site of the tournament fair to all teams.
And to all those saying that UNLV enjoying a home court advantage isn't a problem, I would like to see their team play both games against BYU in the Marriott Center next year.
Byu did not get the worst time slot. The #1 seed since the inception of the MWC Conference has always played the first game of the day on the Thursday of the tournament. There wasn't any conspiracy or bias against Byu just the fact that this is how the tournament is set up. For cougar fans complaining about the time slot, take a longer lunch or think up some creative way to go and see it.
It's not about TV time slots. It's about giving the #1 see more time to rest, watch the other teams, and have more time to prepare for the next game.
What do you expect when the Cougs are playing the worst team in the conference? Just look at the other games and how much more competitive they are.
EVERY BYU fan thinks the world is out to get them, that's right, every last single one of them. If it isn't the Mountain West Conference it's the Mountain Network. If it isn't our network then it's ESPN, if it isn't ESPN it's Switzerland, or Putin, or some small-town farmer in China.
As an avid BYU fan I agree, EVERY person on the planet is out to get BYU. ALL BYU fans agree with me because we are all EXACTLY ALIKE. "Get a life" is right. I'd add: get a clue.
P.S. BYU is the first team I know of in the history of basketball to be unranked, lose to an unranked team, and then be ranked the next week. It's definitely because the world is out to get us.
Actually it is a great benefit for Cougar fans in Las Vegas. They can watch the early game and then hit the casinos for some gambling and then catch a girly show in the evening.
