I can't believe I actually read a soccer article. I must be bored to read an article about boring soccer. Even if I learn to like soccer, I will not support RSL. They pulled a dirty trick on getting Utah tax payers to pay for their stadium.

Sounds like someone's still bitter. I hope all of those Utah tax payers who stay in hotels and rent cars in their own state don't mind paying an extra $2.

Have they decided on a name yet? | 12:23 p.m. March 16, 2008
How about "Pork Barrel Stadium?"

Any stadium name will be better than that other tax-funded stadium in Utah that deals with Nuclear Waste. I'm a Jazz fan though too, so it's hard to be hypocritical of only 1 publicly funded stadium.

Still clueless UTAH TAX payers are NOT paying for the stadium. DUH!!!! Its all on record go look at it.
Horrace | 5:05 p.m. March 16, 2008
Give it up already. Nothing can change the funding now, you only sound like a whinny four-year-old who's upset because they didn't get as much halloween candy. On a brighter note, this preaseason is really giving us fans some hope. I can't wait for the Chigago opener.
Trust me... | 5:32 p.m. March 16, 2008
We're paying.

Sniffle Sniffle stated, "Sounds like someone's still bitter. I hope all of those Utah tax payers who stay in hotels and rent cars in their own state don't mind paying an extra $2." Just like any other tax,if those funds aren't confiscated by the government, all those folks staying in hotels would spend them in restaurants, retail stores etc. That stadium will be a great place for a swap meet when uncle Dave Checketts bails. He'll get his stadium, sell the team, and when it all goes south, he'll be long gone. Don't beleive me? Just look at the Mnt West conference TV deal. All the players, including Dave Checketts are gone. Sold their intrests, and the league is left with the mess. It's coming Sandy.

I wonder, does anyone know if this stadium can be converted into a football stadium? I suspect that soccer will fail soon and we could attempt to get Larry Miller to help us obtain a NFL team.
how bout those blaze :) | 8:24 p.m. March 16, 2008
wait lets start up a petition to get the stadium stopped....oh yeah (we) that failed too!

There will always be those whiners out there, my tax money boo-hoo! Where's the tourism dollars from the Jazz, or Bees? Check the books you babies, Real Madrid vs Real Salt lake was only 2nd to the 2002 Olympics for the most money, and they come back every two years. In 5 years, or less when RSL is selling out, and these cry baby Utahns ARe secretly attending the games in the stadiums, I'll be smiling :) We have a professional soccer (the most popular sport in the world) team in Utah. How lucky are we? So to all those football fans crying about money out there-go price the tax dollars it takes to build a football stadium, and then what the average cost of a 1 game NFL ticket is? Not to mention 50,000 of you would'nt attend a Sunday, or Monday night game due to religion. Then come back and tell me Football can make it, and soccer won't. You don't have any kids under 17 right now either. Because the average kid from 5-17 yrs old enjoys soccer more then football. NBA/NFL/MLB fans are a dying generation. X games, soccer, and La Crosse are the future. RSL1

Thanks James, great article. I too hope that these new players can win straight from the gate.

Oh and by the way, Checketts isn't even the main owner any more. iStar bought 50% last year.

I for one can't wait for the season to start! We are going to do so much better! We are picking up some decent players, hopefully Robbie Findley can start this season, he is a skilled striker!

Good luck to Salt Lake. After a couple of dismal seasons, they deserve better. And great news about the new stadium!

I can't wait to see those men running around the field. Bring on the Brazilian brutes!!!
