He points out that population growth in developing countries has little environmental impact compared to the impact of growth in the developing world, particularly here. The carbon footprint of a family of 10 in a third world country is orders of magnitude less than the footprint of just one person living in the U.S. So, having large families here in the U.S. is one of the worst things we can do for the environment. Even the most organic, tree-hugging, environmental activist American child is still likely to pollute the world more than a large Tanzanian family. I won't even get into the issue about how large houses are becoming here (especially in Utah)!
Anyway, maybe he does fly, but I'd rather see Bill McKibben flying around the U.S. by himself to do something useful (spreading the word about the need for each of us to take some personal responsibility for reducing global warming) than a family of five flying to Europe for a vacation.

I wonder, did anyone who posted here actually GO to the conference about which the Des News article was written? Well, I did, and it offered yet more compelling arguments to support the reality of global warming, but more importantly, it focused on solutions and the necessary timing of them. (By the way, I, too, would be interested in seeing one of the supposedly existing peer-reviewed scientific journal articles that refutes its existence - funny how nobody seemed to be able to post that information!)
