Oh, yes! I mean Si!!! | 5:58 a.m. March 6, 2008
I will e-mail all me friends about the great state of Utah..that will remain that way for a couple of more anos..so that they too can make money , yes more than 5-10 years worth than what can be made in Mexico. This trully a land of opportunity , Thank you my Utah governors and legislature you are numero Uno!And thanks for the muy bien transportation clause as that is muy importante. But sorry about your kids not getting a good paying job, no yo trabajo mucho!Es de nada.
Jerry L. | 6:01 a.m. March 6, 2008
What a joke. What a total waste of time. Delay after delay, study after study and nothing gets done. I hope you enjoy the future that will make Utah a third world country. The legislature should not be paid for this travesty and the should loose all their benefits. We are unable to govern ourselves; All talk and no action.
Citizens Arise | 7:50 a.m. March 6, 2008
Since the Feds and now state legislature don't have the integrity to handle this issue, we need it as a voter referendum in November's election. That's what happened in Arizona a few years ago FORCING the Legislature to enact the pretty good illegal immigration bill they have now. Also, will some student who is paying out of state tuition, please SUE the state of Utah over this issue. Its hard to believe that an American has to pay more to attend school in Utah than an illegal.

Blah BLah Blah stop your complaining nothing is going to be done in your favor. GO UTAH LEGISLATURE.
Kenneth P. | 8:19 a.m. March 6, 2008
Did I hear correctly that the Utah congressional delegation, headed by Sen. Hatch, asked homeland security for 25 additional I.C.E. agents to come to Utah because our jails are full of illegals and we cannot stop illegal alien crime with state resources? Why did'nt we force the state legislature to act on this issue and protect ourselves? I guarntee the feds won't do a thing. Next time my house is robbed by illegals (it has already happened once) I'll just ask them to have compassion on me and my family. That ought to do the trick.
WHIMPS! | 9:31 a.m. March 6, 2008
....In the meantime lets send money back Mexico that the illegals are make here in the USA, and make Mexico stronger and richer country while Americans grow weaker and poorer. That will work.
Juan | 9:54 a.m. March 6, 2008
My family is very happy nothing is going to happen to hurt us. Thank you for the compassion, legislators. Thank you for softening the bill.

All my cousins and friends in Mexico are planning to cross the border and come to Utah because they now know they can get a better life here. Utah's the place to be.

My wife's family is mostly from Central America and have lived in L.A. for several years. They all are planning on moving here--because you people have compassion. (Some of my wife's cousins are part of the Mara Salvatrucha [MS-13] gang, but they'll work hard at whatever jobs they can get.)

I'm glad we can still get the drivers licenses, healthcare, schooling, etc.

My relatives all thank you and look forward to being your new neighbors.
illegal bagel | 9:51 a.m. March 6, 2008
Sorry you loser bashers, you lost darlings and while you are all out there thrashing around about how every drop of your money is going to illegal immigration, I will be protecting your money grubbing wallet and Utah's economy. Oh and did I mention, that I vote, and when I do, I take ten people along with me to vote. Put down your forks ya'll.
illegal bagel | 10:38 a.m. March 6, 2008
Oh, Juan, ya think ya are a little racist, I mean really....first of all hunny the Salvatrucha, ok, now listen VERY carefully. Salvatrucha, does is sound like Salvador, like in El Salvador, like it ANOTHER country, like not Mexico, whatever...they are all sucking your wallet and in gangs right? They are sitting around waiting to access your identity right? Oh Juan, Juan, Juan, you poor misguided soul.
Ken | 11:10 a.m. March 6, 2008
What happened is the LDS Church and the Chamber of Commerce (greedy business addicted to cheap labor) through the Legislature threw us a bone. They now have a year to water down what is a wimpy piece of Legislation and here we think something great happened.
Read the print edition article about our great National contingent asking for more ICE agents and read their reasons. Oh but we need another year to study the effects of illegal immigration.
Juan | 12:02 p.m. March 6, 2008
To illegal bagel:

First of all, you must not be very old or educated because you can't spell and make sense.

Second, the Mara Salvatrucha, also known as MS-13, is one of the most dangerous gangs in the U.S. Its members are mostly Central American. Where have you been lately? Mars?
Thank You | 12:25 p.m. March 6, 2008
Now maybe Colorado will be able to get rid of some of our Illegals because they will be crossing the Border to Utah where life is good and "Compassionate".

Thanks Utah Legislature...you got less done than the Democratic ruled Legislature in Colorado. Viva La Raza in Utah. Heaven Help you.
Juan | 12:24 p.m. March 6, 2008
Also to illegal bagel:

You must be a Democrat. This election season is proving you to be right when you say you take 10 more (dead? real?) people with you to vote.

Anyone else besides me sensing a lot of voter fraud occuring this year? Remember the story of how more votes were cast at the recent Utah Democratic caucus than there were registered Democrats.

I smell a rat--and it isn't just Hugo Chavez.
Tina | 1:05 p.m. March 6, 2008
I am here legally and I would like to see the crime that my illegal Latino neighbors have brought here to take their crime and leave. And quit making life difficult for us who are here legally. PLEASE!!!!! go back to your home in Mexico. They need you more than do Americans.
JanetP | 12:59 p.m. March 6, 2008
The problems associated with illegal immigration are not going to go away until the American people rise up in numbers that overwhelm the illegals who are marching in our streets and making demands on our government. We need to be organizing in small groups that will network into a larger movement and TAKE BACK OUR COUNTRY.
Lee | 1:34 p.m. March 6, 2008
I would like to put up billboards in California, Arizona and Colorado touting Utah's compassion towards illegals. Maybe we can get thousands more illegals to come to the state and we can have even more problems.
Anonymous | 1:43 p.m. March 6, 2008
In my opinion. What they should so is legalize everyone that is here and that does not have any other crimincal activity besides ofcourse being here illigaly. (gang members, drug dealers, rapest, etc. etc) would not qualify they would need to be sent back to their home Country. And then give big fines, and even some jail to companies that hire any illigal alliens to do their cheap labor.
Mike | 2:07 p.m. March 6, 2008
Tina just on FYI not all the illigals here in the U.S. are Mexicans. There are illigals form other countries too.dont specify that all illigals go back to Mexico. Just say go back to your home country. One question. Why do you have to specify that you are here legally?
Camie Anne | 2:34 p.m. March 6, 2008
To Anonymous,
You are completely off your rocker and need some professional help. A spelling class might do you some good as well.
Tina | 2:54 p.m. March 6, 2008
Well------ Mr. Mike!!!
It just so happens that I only know Mexican illegals and they live in my neighborhood and these people are completely out of control. Just watch the NEWS!!! I realize there are illegal whites, Japanese, Korean, Africans and what knot's all around this town, but I see mostly my own breed of people causing chaos. They do not respect Americans. And to be truthful with you they truly hate Americans and religious groups. These guys make it bad for my kind who are here legally----- DO YOU UNDERSTAND?
Jim | 3:05 p.m. March 6, 2008
I am alittle confused about the picture. A graduate, persumably illegal immigrant, attending a US Tax funded school. Getting and education at tax payers expense, then protesting that it isn't fair. I tell you what, why not give back California, Arizona and Texas back to the Mexicans and then there would be no problems, no illegals.
Mike | 3:49 p.m. March 6, 2008
Tina, I understand all right. You need to get out more often so that you can mee other illigals that are not mex. But I just wanted YOU to understand that there are illigals form other countries that are causing chaos here in the U.S. as well, there are some illigals in my neighborhood too, but they are not mexicans, and yes they do cause alot of problems, specially over the weekends. NOW DO YOU UNDERSTAND? dont blame only one race for what they and other races are doing. Speak plural sister.
Jane | 4:18 p.m. March 6, 2008
Hey Mike!
Are you legally here? If not go home!
Problem solver | 4:36 p.m. March 6, 2008
Let private citizens collect a bounty on every illegal alien they bring in to deportation officials. It will kill two birds with one stone; decrease the illegal alien problem and re-direct money being used to support illegals back to the tax payer. I really think this will work and stimulate patriotism.
You and your Rep aren't my boss | 5:38 p.m. March 6, 2008
Jane, "Are you legally here? If not go home!"

You think you own America but you don't and neither do the neighbors whom you vote for. Mike is a good man regardless if he is here in violation of immoral laws passed by immoral people like you and you are a moron and I prefer to associate with him and I will not let you or the imbecile who lives in your neighborhood and who goes to Salt Lake every February for 45 days tell me who I can and can't associate with. If a want to marry a woman from Russia I have a right to do so and no busy-body who thinks that because they can vote they have the right to deprive me of my loved one while they and the parasite they are married to get to live together because both of them were born in the U.S. can take a hike.

You and the person who represents you aren't my boss and I will associate with whomever I want and if that is an illegal by the name of Mike instead of a State Senator by the name of Jane who is a moron (sarcams).

Governor, the task force was part of your doing. It's time to call a special session.
To the above..... | 7:04 p.m. March 6, 2008
5:38 p m ....LOL LOL LOL LOL!!!!!
Anonymous | 10:36 p.m. March 6, 2008
I'm happy that there is not task force aproved. Tina, please find yourself I think your feelings are getting you sick or loosing your memory. I know that all you who think that all the Illegals are criminals, dont believe in God, (and that is the difference between you and compassive people ) that Illegals have faith in him and we know are protected by him. and we will suffer, true, but God will compensate us . Oh! and Tina just to let you know, From North America to South America we are all Americans. But I know that not all the Northamericans think like all of you, thats another thing to be greatful of God.
I lived in US for 18 years , I was single for ten years with 2 kids , I had 2 jobs to try feed my kids who are US.citizens, but thanks to God that I always had and have Health Insurance,(you accused us that we recieve medicaid or medicals or whatever you call that state thing) I pay my mortgage house , I learned and love the culture of this country as I still love my roots of my origen;

Utah legislature claims this is not a racist problem but from the comments I am reading it is obviously becoming one. Sadly we are becoming a country full of hate and intolerance..It seems to be mostly negative comments I read all the time. But I work with the public and I want to tell you I have met many gracious families who are honest and hard working and want a better life. Yes there will always be those who want to do wrong even the citizens of the US..there are always those who ruin it for everyone...and it does appear Mexicans are being targeted as the mostly problematic race..how sad. I feel fortunate to be born in the US. But we all should feel some kind of compassion for those less fortunate who are trying. After all really and truly we don't own the US...God does and He loves us all no matter the color of our skin or what language we speak...if it were so easy to come here legally why aren't they doing it...why are they risking everything..even their own lives? There should be a better solution
JanetP | 12:22 p.m. March 7, 2008
marcia: I propound two questions to you:

How many illegal immigrants do you think the U.S. CAN absorb?

How many illegal immigrants do you think the U.S. SHOULD absorb?
marcia | 10:26 p.m. March 7, 2008
Hi Jane...I feel that the ones who have been here for awhile and have established a good life and are doing fine should have an opportunity to stay. If they don't want to assimilate, learn the language and the established customs here and have no respect...want to sell drugs or cause other problems they shouldn't have that opportunity. But they should also have the opportunity to celebrate their customs...I have been to a quinceanera and Greek festival and its very fun to see the customs of others and celebrate diversity!
illegal bagel | 10:07 a.m. March 8, 2008
Oh My little, and I do mean little, Juan, I would hate to be "old" "educated" and "democrat" oh silly me!
JanetP | 7:14 a.m. March 9, 2008
Marcia: That was not exactly the answer I was looking for. Do you have a number in mind that the USA can absorb? It is estimated that we now have between 12 and 38 million illegal immigrants in the country and at least 850,000 more are entering the country each year.

Clearly one nation can't take in every person from every third world country - especially when such large numbers of them are dependent on the entitlement programs provided by the U.S. Hence, what I am asking: Is there a number at which you would say 'enough'; we can't take anymore?
To anyone reading this | 12:17 p.m. March 31, 2008
I think it is rather interesting to see people's reactions to the overblown immigration problem. Some blame "illegals" for many ills this country is suffering. Others call them "criminals" without really questioning the ethicallity of immigration laws. All this intollerance and discrimination is not a coincidence. All this energy and fever should be applied to stopping this ridiculous "WAR ON TERROR". But I suppose you're ok with your children, brothers/sisters/wives/husbands/friends/relatives continue to fight and die in an illegal war. Oh, but look out! Brown skinned people are here breaking a relatively insignificant law!

I won't be surprised to see the US collapse, and the immigrants and minorities will take the blame. Nevermind that it's the average American's lack of personal responsibility and uncontrolled spending, along with this pointles and ridiclously expensive war. But go on. Get those damn illegals.

You're doing a heckuva job, Utah.
